Blu-Ray - standalone drive or PS3?

I am toying with getting a Blu-Ray drive. I really don't care much about the gaming capabilities of the PS3, and would just as soon not give Sony my money. I would also strongly prefer to use an IR remote, so I can use a Harmony remote for everything. I also really prefer to be able to just pop in a music CD without turning on my TV.

All of the above being said, it sounds like the PS3 is the most future-proof BR drive available, and I imagine I MIGHT want to play games on a PS3 once GT5 comes out.

Can the PS3 overcome the issues I mentioned above? Am I crazy for thinking about buying a separate drive (probably the Samsung BD-P1400)? Anyone with firsthand PS3/BR experience want to weigh in on this? Thanks!

PS3 rocks. I got one for the same reasons, and I am quite happy with it. grab a 60gb one while you still can. (plus the 5 free Blu Ray disc offer that is still available)
It is more future proof than any current Blu Ray drive available; and it' slooking more and more that it will certainly be 2.0 compliant.

The remote is Bluetooth though...not sure if it has IR capability.
You can fold proteins with it, too :)
