Blu-ray questions

So right now I have two VGA monitors, and I'm looking at getting a third that I can run a Blu-ray movie on. I know all about the need for a HDCP-compliant path from OS to Monitor. I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether I can run Blu-ray movies on a system with two VGA monitors, and an HDMI one?

Obviously you need the HDCP monitor on the HDMI output but there should be no reason you can't drive all 3 at the same time.

You don't need a DVI/HDMI to play back Blu-Ray. It's kind of messed up, but the HDCP scheme only applies to digital connection, thus analog isn't affected. You can play Blu-Ray movies on your VGA monitor just fine.

If anything, having multiple monitors, especially HDCP compliant + non-compliant mixed, may cause issues. (e.g. your two VGA screen will black out while playing back protected content over HDMI)

yeah but I believe if you want to watch a Bluray in 1080P FULL HD you have to use a HDMI cable not only for the bandwidth but also the HDCP protection.

And actually yeah trying to drive analog display while watching a HDCP encrypted Bluray on the HDMI may not work. That is something I would have to further look into.

Personally, I had problems playing HDCP protected content on a single HDCP complient monitor or projector or TV with a single HDCP compliant source (I have used a PC and an Xbox360).

not the same problems all the time, and I have had "working" HDCP links, its just always been problematic.. and laggy (takes a good while to establish the connection).

It is hard to predict what sort of issues you might have, it is really hit and miss with this crap DRM.
