Blu-ray Player/PS3 sound issue

Having an issue related to sound with both a blu-ray player that I got for christmas (and returned) and the PS3 I exchanged it for.

When watching a movie on the old player and on the new PS3, the sound lags approximately 1 to 1.5 seconds behind the video. I am using HDMI output to the PS3 (and was on the BD player), I've tried 720/1080i, neither seems to matter.

I tested the BD Player and the PS3 with composite cables, both played movies flawlessly. The constants with these two devices is the 1.) HDMI cable, 2.) TV.

I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions. The TV is several years old and is the cheap "ilo" brand (pretty much a pile of components from everywhere thrown together and sold at big box stores). The HDMI cable was purchased at Target in a pack with the Planet Earth Blu-Ray.

I will be taking the PS3 over to a friends house tomorrow and testing it out with his TV (to determine if it's my TV potentially) I just thought someone might have seen a similar problem and would offer some suggestions.

Also, I will be getting a new TV come tax time, I realize ILO is the worst choice in televisions, but it was a 32" LCD that I absolutely stole ($140 after it was all said and done).

If you are not using an audio/video receiver between the player and TV, then the problem is your TV. The cable has nothing to do with this. Check your TV settings to see if there are any audio sync or "lip sync" features and mess with them. Otherwise you may just have a TV that can't deal with HDMI audio properly.

Thomsbrain hit the nail on the head - I was just about to say to check if your TV has an audio sync level you can adjust (delay + or -). Generally I have seen this on receivers.... so when I go from my PS3 to my receiver, HDMI in and then HDMI out to my TV, I have the option in my receiver to adjust the lip sync. Even though I have a newer LCD TV, I have not seen any option like this on my TV... so not sure how much luck you will have on that.

There are options like this: http://www.js-technology.com/produc...id=53&osCsid=e454e6a5dae8fa9c23604cb85ce0511f but pretty crappy to have to buy one really, if you have to spend on that rather than saving for a better TV. Or better yet eventually get a decent receiver with HDMI in/out. That would be the best option with some speakers to take full advantage of the 5.1/+.

Thanks for the suggestion on trying to use the TV menu about the lip or audio sync. I took a look at the menu tonight and have only 3 options in the audio menu and they are "balance" "treble" and "bass".

The sound on HDMI doesn't work at all now after last night, you can occasionally hear some crackling however. Going to test it out on another TV just be sure but I'm thinking it's time for a new TV.

Any recommendations on a solid brand in a 32-42" LCD for around $1000?
