I am thinking of buying a blu-ray drive for my pc so that I could watch tv on it and maybe connect it to my lcd tv for movies. I have 2 acer 19" monitors that run at a res of 1680x1050. will the difference between blu-ray movies and regular dvds be enough to warrant the upgrade?

For me it would. I've tested this with 480P anime/tv episodes and 720P anime/tv episodes on my 1680x1050 resolution laptop and i could see the difference. As long as you are not too far away from the screen for its size, you will see a refreshing increase in sharpness (less pixelation).

I can't remember the "guide" to "can I tell a difference in resolution" but there is a guide out there that graphs out your distance away from the screen vs. the diagonal size of the screen vs. the resolution.

If you are within 19-38" of the screen, I would say you would definitely see a difference.
