Blu-ray/DVD player for Win 10

I'm looking for a low footprint player for DVD and blu-ray that will work with Win 10. I'd rather not go with a full blown suite of Norton Utilities like crap and am looking for something that does just play dvd and bluray and isn't constantly reporting home about what I'm doing. I don't expect to use it much so buying an expensive suite is out of the question. Lastly, I'd prefer it not be one of those programs that sneak in other crap if your not careful.

So, what's out there?

As mentioned VLC works fine for DVDs. For blu-rays too actually but I'm assuming you mean the commercial copy-protected kind... 😉

There are 3 choices for commercial blu-ray playback. PowerDVD, WinDVD and Macgo Windows Blu-ray Player. That's it.

Yeah, I have a bunch of BR disks and although I usually watch them on my HDTV at home I sometimes want to watch one while travelling. Not often enough to justify shelling out a bunch of money and loading up my system with a suite of mostly crap just to watch the occasional BR movie.

The Leawo Player is another choice for playing commercial Blu-ray. It is hit or miss on menus however. http://www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/ Its not bad for a free player, but it won't be as consistent in playback compared to PowerDVD.

I normally decrypt and rip to the hard drive and ignore menus, so I use MPC-HC instead of VLC.

You might check Daum PotPlayer out.

I used to use VLC a few years ago and like Daum much better myself.

Currently have Windows 10 Insider Build 14295.rs1 running on the main rig, looks they might have the actual Red Stone things being more active. Daum works well here.

Is what I use for playing media on a couple of rigs.

I was assuming it was against forum rules to even mention DMCA-violating software but since apparently it is not, I'll note that VLC (published by an organization based in France, so obviously not subject to the DMCA) can be made to handle Blu-Rays (more or less.) The necessary dll and keys can be found at vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/.

BUMP!

Just wanted to say the trick for VLC is no longer working. At least not on my system with newer Blu-rays.
Also that 5K player doesnt play blu-ray either. I dont know why. It claims to.
Leawo works just fine.

You can probably find a good deal on PowerDVD 16 now that the 4K-capable PowerDVD 17 is out.

I don't care about the menus, so I use MakeMKV to convert all the titles on the disc to MKV files. I keep the few extras I think I'll watch another time and delete the rest. I can then use any player I want to.
