Blu ray Drive

I went today to pickup a new monitor at BB since mine pooped on me.
I ended up getting a lg monitor.I saw the lg blu ray drive for $119 with the power dvd software so I bought it.

Does this software actually upconvert standard dvds?
I watched hancock and it looked alot better then when I watched it with my samsung 223 drive.

If I use this drive and connect it to my hdtv how can I go about running my sound?I am limited to the pc speakers I own or can I do it some other way?

The real reason why I bought the blu ray drive is I am a little tired of my current dvd player.It is old,movies do not upconvert and they look like shit now.
I figured for $100 for a upconvert dvd player that I should just get the blu ray drive for $20 more then be able to watch blu ray discs.

Well, a drive isn't going to automatically up-scale your DVDs to 1080i or whatever, that's a software function. And I'm not sure what software exactly you'd need to do that properly, maybe post over in the Audio Video & Home Theater forum?

update the power dvd software, br players are high def already and will upconvert to the dvd format being used.
