Hi,

just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this. recently i purchased and Acer Aspire 8920G with a blu-ray drive.

some blu-ray cd's wont run and i get the same error as the review on anandtech.com for the 6920. i tried what they tried like forcing hacked drivers etc, but nothing will resolve the issue,

could this be due to the revision of blu-ray menu's? i remember something about this a while ago on some blu-ray cd's on the playstation 3 whereby they would not play as they have had a menu revision?

anyone got any thoughts?

cheers.

Check and see if there is any firmware upgrades for your drive, and also update your playback software to latest version.

hi, thanks for the reply.

acer has provided an update for "Acer Arcade Deluxe" (from cyberlink) which is the software you use to watch blu-ray - so i've updated that - and still no luck.

unfortunateley, acer do not provide firmware updates for their drives, so that leaves me in a bit of a rut.

any other ideas?

cheers

You might want to check if the blu-ray drive is made by acer or not. Most of the time the optical drive from Acer is from another company.

Actually, I can't see any advantage in watching Blu-Ray on a laptop. The screen is simply too small to take advantage of the B/R resolution...Everything I have read on the subject says that you really need a 40-inch screen or larger to really notice any difference visually.

check device manager to find out what kind of drive it is... Post it here and we'll look for a firmware update.

And maybe try the latest version of PowerDVD.

Ah but you don't sit 6 feet away from a laptop.

True - for movies 2 to 3 feet usually - but who wants to watch movies on a laptop when there is a 42-in plasma in the next room. :)

Man . . . when I travel there ain't no time for movies. :) But - I suppose you could do that, but is it worth the extra $? To each his or her own. :)
