I recently upgraded to Windows 10. I have an Asrock motherboard and an i5 cpu. For some reason my blu ray drive does not work well in Windows 10. I have a fresh install and had no problems during the install process. This only happened after Windows 10 was installed. I have reinstalled Windows with the same result. Sometimes I can disable the drive in the device manager and then re-enable it and it will work for a while. Any ideas?

What brand & model of blu-ray drive?
It seems kind of unlikely, but maybe a firmware update would fix the error.
Might also replace the drive's data cable, in case that is the problem.

My guess is that Windows 10 has installed a generic driver. That should work fine for just about any optical drive, but yours may need a special driver. Check the mfg site.

EDIT: It just occurred to me you may have the opposite problem. Win 10 install may have retained the proprietary driver, which is not compatible with Win 10. If that's the case, uninstall the driver and let Windows install the generic driver.

With the 1511 update I've noticed that my bd's will not recognize an inserted disc unless I go to this pc in file explorer. Once I click on it my drive and disc will be recognized. Beforehand they could recognize the disc immediately.

I have an old Lite-on iHES208 using whatever generic driver Windows uses and it has worked fine in both 7 and 10. Well, aside from the infamous Lite-On sticking tray issue, but that isn't OS related.

Have you removed upper and lower filters? http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/upperfilters-lowerfilters.htm

No offense, but I've had so many Lite-On drives fail over time I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole.

Just threw many straight into the trash and stopped buying them.

Rarely even use the ones that i do have, but they work at least still.

None taken. I got it for free which is why I have it. I wouldn't have bought one!
