Question Blu Ray device showing up as ATAPI

Hello,

I recently purchased a slimline ODD. It connects via a slimline adapter to one of the SATA ports on my motherboard. I've noticed that various hardware info programs are reporting that this is an ATAPI device with a bus rate of 1.5 Gbps/sec.

Is it normal for ODDs to appear as an ATAPI device, rather than a SATA device?

Thanks!

Yes, that is normal.

ATAPI (AT Attachment Packet Interface) is the standard connection protocol used to support removable media drives like CD/DVD/Bluray and certain tape drives. The protocol was added to both PATA/IDE and SATA controllers to allow more types of devices to be used with those controllers.
