Ran a forum search and a google and not much came up on this issue other than a couple articles from 2001-2003.
In about 2002 I purchased 2 retail boxed Gigabyte G-HI8XP motherboards. They rocked, until both the computers became unstable about a year ago. Replaced motherboards after much heartburn in diagnosing problems. Stuffed mobos in a box and left on shelf in closet for the last year. Recently pulled them out and looked at them for old times sake and BEHOLD!!!! both motherboards had blown and corroded capacitors in the exact same spots on the board. Nothing says manufacturers defect more than that...eh?
So I google the issue, find out about the stolen cap formula, the subsequent lawsuit and settlement, but can't find any involvement of Gigabyte.
Has anyone gotten free cap replacement w/ free shipping from Gigabyte recently?
Sure would love to put these things back to good use - if they weren't crisped from the bad electronics.
Thanks!
EDIT: found www.badcaps.net - but still would like any input or experiences with this problems from the AT gang...
