So I just saw another blown call against the Yankees. We all remember the terrible officiating at the Yankees/Toronto series last week.
At what point does the league need to step in and call the umpires into check?
It's getting to the point where the umpires are more of a defining force in the outcome of the game than the actual players themselves. When does the league recognize that this is a serious problem? Whether it's umpires that are too old to accurately call a game or whether they just don't care or whether they're biased...it doesn't matter. Their job is to get the call right, and they're failing. It's unfortunate that umpires cannot be disciplined for screwing up and that they cannot be fired. Throwing players out without provocation and throwing managers out at the slightest complaint...it's just not right.
