Blowhole installation question

I cut a hole in my side panel last week and I'm going to be installing a fan today. I thought about putting a thin layer of foam between the fan and the metal panel to cut down on noise/vibration transmission. Is this a good idea or is it just excess? Thanks.

You might reduce the noise by a few dB if you did it to all your fans, but that's probably it.

You can use 3M double stick tape. It saves you from drilling screw holes 😀, and it does the job for vibrations.

If you're using a quiet fan, I'd say it's worth it. If you're not, any vibration the fan would cause would just be drowned out by the fan itself.
