Blowhole Cutting Precautions?

I'll be cutting a few holes in my case later this week. I'd REALLY rather not remove everything from inside of it. What can I use to cover the MB, etc while I buzz away at the metal surrounding it? Or is it just a completely stupid suggestion to grind with parts still inside? Any experience would be greatly appreciated.

I recomend that you start drilling ASAP! When I cut the blowhole for my case I didn't even bother turning off the computer! Those fans are HOT Swapable! 🙂 It was neat to see all the blue arcs on the motherboard. Talk about ticking out your case!!!! But, if your really want to see fireworks! Drill the hole in the dark! AWSOME!

Hmmm, as soon as you start up the Hole Saw... You'r going to see Zillions of small metalic Shavings flying everywhere!!! Remove Everything from the case. I would even remove the Power supply. In case you start getting heavy handed with the drill.. Oppps took out some power cables!

yes, take everything out. I also suggest that if you wish to put a hole in the top, see if you can remove it first.

shavings will go everywhere. if you are going to use a hole saw, try this little tip I got from watching people install sidemarker lights..

tape off the area where you wish to cut with masking tape. just put it down on both sides. drill your pilot hole, figure out where the blade will land, and tape it up. this helps keep SOME of the dust down, and also helps keep the hole's edges cleaner by a little.

Yes!

Better take everything out, you won't regret it!

I dont use a hole saw too messy & jagged, I used a hole punch, its a 2 peice heavy steel set in sizes from 1/2" -- 4" and cuts thru any metal even stainless! Only drill 1 hole in the center to push the bolt thru and screw the cutting die on it then turn bolt with a wrench till it pops thru. Leaves a clean hole without rough edges and loss of paint. Problem is unless your an electrican and use one regularly, they aren't cheap.
