Up to 11 boys were castrated while in the care of the Dutch Roman Catholic church in the 1950s to rid them of homosexuality, a newspaper investigation has said.

A young man was castrated in 1956 after telling police he was being abused by priests, the newspaper reported.

The justice minister is investigating the role of the government at the time.

Last year, an inquiry found thousands of children had been sexually abused in Dutch Catholic institutions since 1945.

Dutch MPs called for an inquiry after the report was published in the NRC Handelsblad newspaper at the weekend.

If castration rids homosexual tendencies, maybe they should try it on the priests.

But it's not gay unless the victim of the rape gets a hard-on too!!

Castration solves that problem for the Catholic priests...they can butt-bang little boys to their heart's content without having to worry about giving a reach-around.

Oh look, another Catholic Church hate thread where people apply the actions of a few to the entire church.

Exactly. It was also created by the biggest idiot on ATOT who knows better but acts like an idiot anyway to get attention.

When I point out the hundreds of teachers arrested monthly for child molestation and the cover ups that go on to protect them (Penn State, The Citadel), you dont see "busydude" say a damn thing about it.

He agenda is militant atheism and thats it.

These hate threads are getting old. The 1950s are so pre-Vatican II.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

The Catholic Hierarchy is almost entirely made up of self hating closeted homosexuals, and has been since they actually started enforcing celibacy. The fact that anyone still takes them seriously on matters relating to sexual ethics is just mind boggling.

I only comment if the convicted teacher is hot.

I really wish that former coach lived long enough to see himself get convicted/serve jail time for said crimes.

Personally, I think you are a really good man with a big heart. You are also a living and breathing proof that people act irrationally when it comes to their religion.

I post these things because, I am enjoying the freedom your constitution and the internet gave me.

Militant atheism is not my agenda it is the agenda of Richard Dawkins, I do not agree with him in a lot of things.. and militant atheism is one of them.

I am also very happy that I am born in this time.. where religious institutions are being convicted for the crimes they commit(at least in the developed world).

From the article:

A commission of inquiry last year said Catholic officials had failed to tackle the widespread abuse at schools, seminaries and orphanages.

The commission - headed by former cabinet minister Wim Deetman - found tens of thousands of children had suffered abuse ranging from inappropriate touching to rape.

That's pretty widespread and not just "a few". While I agree that people tend to attack the entire Catholic church and lump them all together with these stories, it isn't/wasn't just a minor problem with a few people.

The problem is that the few people who took those actions all happened to be leaders of the church in various capacities. If it was just followers of Catholicism, it would be asinine to blame the church. But when it's revealed to be a systemic problem within the leadership of the church itself, and when actions are taken to sweep it under the rug and silence it rather than publicly condemn and excommunicate those few who took those terrible actions... well, it just makes the Catholic Church look weak, complicit or accepting (take your pick).

So if a teacher is "hot" then child abuse is ok with you? I hope thats not what you mean. A lot of people make that mistake, dont be one of them.

Despite your denials of hating religion and Catholicism in general you consistently bash both and only point out the negatives. You have made your opinions clear. One of your future threads will feature some other negative article about religion or Catholicism (its all you care to point out), and I will remind you of your agenda. :|

If somene consistently posted negative articles about Muslims, Jews, Albanians or whatever group it might lead others to think that he hated that particular group.

You have the right kind of hope.

Despite your denials of hating religion and Catholicism in general you consistently bash both and only point out the negatives. You have made your opinions clear. One of your future threads will feature some other negative article about religion or Catholicism (its all you care to point out), and I will remind you of your agenda.

I have no denials. I hate organized religion and I have made no secret about it.

If somene consistently posted negative articles about Muslims, Jews, Albanians or whatever group it might lead others to think that he hated that particular group.

Yeah, I've made a lot of threads/posts bashing Islam, Hinduism.. and religion in general.

The irony of you accusing me of hating Catholicism and all.. is that you would be the first person to point out the negatives of all religions, while defending your own. I just point out the negatives of every organized religion. Also, you have never condemned the actions of those priests that I mentioned in the OP, and yet you demand me to condemn those acts which have nothing to do with the thread.

They should have just transferred them to another area. It's the way the Catholics handle priests that sexually abuse kids.
