Wasn't sure where to put this but the OS forum seemed as good as any. I suppose it can be moved if need be. Anyway, according to Bloomberg Microsoft is on the cusp of acquiring GitHub but for what amount is unclear.
So the largest code repository site in the world might soon be under the Microsoft brand. I find it a bit ironic that the worlds largest proprietary software company could acquiring the worlds largest open source software company.
What do you guys think? Would it be a good acquisition by Microsoft or another blunder like aQuantive?

I think you'd probably getting better responses in Programming, but that's just me.

I'm curious as to what Microsoft is hoping to get out of it.

I'm trying to think of anything that has turned out for the better because Microsoft acquired it, but I'm drawing a blank. I can think of plenty of the opposite, though.
