Is there a big difference? I have a X800XL which doesn't have HDR. I was thinking about getting a 7600GT for HDR games.

Does anyone know what all games support HDR? I think CODII,Source and Oblivion does. Don't know of anymore.

HDR owns Bloom. But, HDR AND AA is the way to go, unfortunately you're going to need at least a X1900XT for that. :p

Since I don't see a X1900XT in the near future which would be best having HDR and no AA or have Bloom and AA(if possible)? Is AA worth giving up for HDR?

One last thing which is better X800XL or X1600XT?

HDR is oblivion is the best done HDR in any game to date so its well worth the trade off. Bloom has VERY subtle differences to having nothing applied at all, but ide still leave bloom on with AA/AF. The x800xl is a far better card that the X1600XT, dont trade off power for sm3.0 support which the card cant even power.

heres the deal. A friend offered me his X800XL for $80. I was gonna spring for a 7600GT for $170 shipped with $30 rebate(which I hate rebates). Is it worth it just to get the 7600GT? I'll likely pickup a X1800XT once prices fall in my price range whenever that will be. Mostly want it for Oblivion but for first person shooters to.

Basicly is the performance and features of a 7600GT worth the extra $90($60 if I get the rebate)?

a 7600gt can be had for about $150 actually nowadays, i personally would say yes its worth the cash upgrade. The performance doesnt justify it as much as the features your getting, sm 3.0 and purevideo enhancements. But when you say you would like to purchase the X1800XT at a later time i regret to inform you that the prices are NOT going to drop further, might on the 256mb version but deffinitely not the 512mb. Theyre seized in production and too high in demand, another pathway would be to get the 7600gt from eVGA and step up in a couple months when you have the cash to a 7900gt or just go all out and buy the X1800XT now because prices seemingly are staying very steady. Also a 7600gt is MUCH faster than an x800xl i would say if overclocked highly could be 1.5 times as fast. hope that helps.

HDR and Bloom aren't deal breakers. Get the best card you can afford that is going to run the games as smoothly as possible. HDR/Bloom are just icing on the cake.

well I like icing :D. I think I'll spring for a 7600GT and so the setup like Nextman suggested. But honestly if I bought the 7600GT I have no plans of upgrading till Crysis/UT2007 because afaik those are the only 2 games coming that really demands new hardware.

HDR is like Super-Bloom. But I actually find both to be annoying during gameplay, so I disabled them.

Its nice for screen shots so you can show everybody how advanced the engine is, but then it gets tiresome.

I really like HDR, both in HL2:Ep1 and Oblivion, though I must admit it's a little over the top in some parts. But its mostly great looking.

HDR does not do it for me really.

Mine is always off, looks pretty in screen shots but thats about it.

Agreed on buying the best you can afford and not worry about HDR at the moment. (unless you really really want to use it)

HDR is awesome, I don't know how anyone who is capable of running it chooses not to, without it the world looks flat and lifeless to me. Maybe it looks better on the ATI, it seems to be mostly nVidia people who turn it off.

Even if it does look just as good on nVidia, you might not be happy with the performance on a 7600GT - I've got an x1900xt and I rarely see more than 40fps outdoors with HDR and everything cranked up.

Maybe performance is better with the new patch and drivers, I wouldn't know, I stopped playing because I was sick of buildings, trees, and huge boulders suddenly appearing 10 feet in front of me.

My only experience with HDR prior to Oblivion was AOE3 and it didn't really do anything for me in that game. But, in Oblivion, I think it's just about perfect. I started off playing Oblivion with SLI 6800GTs. Naturally, because of the weakness of the GPUs, I couldn't push a high enough resolution to limit the jaggies and just keep HDR and the bloom with AA just didn't seem as good to me. So, anyway, I upgraded to an XTX and now can do HDR and 4xAA at 16x12, so I'm happy. It bogs down in some spots, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

i feel so stupid after trading my x800pro for my crappy x1600pro, although i had to go to pcie from agp, it still pisses me off
