Some of you on IRC knew that I passed ten (10) *10* days connected to dialup on my isp! last night a stor hit and not only did it kill my most wonderful uptime to the internet but it also
1) turned off all my ATX machines and of course they did not restart when power came back on
2) turned off my pproxy which rebooted because of AT power BUT my admin. password expirsed so it never completed booting up.

Combine that with the awesome connected time (shown below at 8 dyas and 6 days) I am angry!

PF, get a UPS!!! I have many of them 🙂. Wow, just get a cheap one at least that will let you shut down properly. Do you have one but the power was out for a while? Maybe I miss understood it. Sorry to here about you uptime 🙁.
 
nah I don't have a UPS, but the only bright side is at least now I can reseat everything properly and add additional hardware into the proxy with no fear of losing a great (to me) uptime
 
We just had a storm here the other day, too. 🙁 🙁

Unfortunately I think one of my cows (also, my most powerful), an Athlon 850 isn't crunching at the moment. I need to, somehow, convice the sys admin over at the high school to run this on all the Macs.

I doubt he'll say yes, which is why I haven't asked yet.

That does stink. We don't have power problems here, but sometimes, if a storm is bad enough, the power can go out. That's probably one reason why they shut all of the computer off. I'm hoping to change their minds about that. I'd like to see the puters at my school on all the time, cracking blocks 🙂. Well, who knows, guess I'l just have to wait and see.


P.S. -- I should be writing an essay right now, but oh well. Guess il just have to turn it in late 🙁.
 
I've probably lost a couple of hundred WU's due to power outages. Living in west central Florida is not easy on puters without a UPS. Unfortunately the place I work feels only servers and "critical" boxes need battery backup. They don't understand that they're *ALL* critical when analyzing SETI data! 🙂

PF, this is what you get for cutting DanC's power.😉 Seriously though, that bites.:| But, you can allways try again, so good luck on hitting another ten days.🙂
