I was browsing about last night & I noticed that a Pair of Blundies go for US$135 in the US. I was totally gobsmacked, here in Oz Blundies are just cheap knock about boots (but they are bloody good cheap knock-a-bout boots), that cost between about A$45 & A$65 (that's between about US$25 & US$35), & that's with or without steelcaps.

For that sort of money (that the Blundies are going for in the US), one could by a pair of hand made made-to-order RM Williams boots, like as these 'Yard Boots', where the entire 'upper' is made from one peice of leather & the leather sole (& composite rubber under sole) are hand welt wax stiched & brass screwed to the leather inner sole (the brass screws wear at the same rate ass the sole). These shoes are tough as & are designed to be repaired (when the rubber coposite under sole or heal wears down you just tak it in for a re-soleing. My RM Williams boots are still going strong after 15 years.

If any of you ever plan on buying a pair of Blundies, let me know 1st & I'll see how much they'l cost to buy them here & mail them across to the US. I'm sure sea-mail is pretty cheap across the pacific. Even air-mail's not to dear, I s'pose it depends on the weight of the boots.

Dab:

Heck, a decent pair of cowboy boots cost us $250 here in the States. But Blundies are plug ugly by comparison. Blokes don't actually wear those things do they? I wouldn't pay $10 for a pair of those things. :p

Ya know, if any of the Aussie members of the board want to buy American PC components and have 'em shipped down under, I'll be more than happy to assist.

:D

Just email me.

Maybe those sissy ones with the snake skin. Mine were $80 at the factory in Tennessee (Texas Boot Company, manufactured in TN -- hmmm...). You just have to know where NOT to go to buy them. :)

It's always amusing to find out how much these products cost overseas when they are "imported". It's somewhat similar to the fact that Budweiser sells for a premium price in France, more expensive than German or Belgian beers in many cases. :D

Yeh, I know what you mean, us Aussies just like elastic sided boots because we are lazy & the Blundies are the cheapest decent ones you can get. I just don't see anyone paying that sort of money for a pair of bloody Blundies.

BTW, it seems I've been commissioned with a job by you lot, tommorrow I'll pop into the local bottle shop & while I'm buying one of those big cans of British or Irish beer (god I love those nitrogen widgets they have in them, they make 'em so much fun to open, & you get a nice creamy head:)) I'll see what sort of prices us Aussies are expected to pay for American beer.

Dabanshee,

See, That's what I call a "footy"... Too bad we are two great peoples separated by the same language... :p

Oh, I don't know what you Aussies call "American" beer. If you want a decent american beer, get something like a Sam Adams or an Anchor Steam. Don't drink the mass produced horse piss like Bud or MGD or something.

BTW, All you beer drinkers who think you know your beers:

Foster's (You know, australian for beer), the stuff we drink in the states *isn't* made in australia... it is made in canada under license. That is why it is so cheap as compared to other beers from that area of the world. I doubt if you put the foster's we get, and the foster's that Dabee drinks, together that they'd even taste the same.

Actually I'm not a Fosters drinker. Fosters is Melbourne piss.

I'm a Toohey's man. Which means on hot summer days I drink Toohey's New (a bottom fermented Lager) & also sometimes drink Tooyey's Old, Which is a dark top fermented sparkling ale (ie, not as flat as English ales)

On winter nights I like to drink Cooper's. Which is a bottle conditioned cloudy ale (they do a 2nd fermentation in the bottle, by not pasturising it & then bottling it with a teaspoon of cane sugar, as such it ends up having a nice bite of between 5.8% & 6.2% alcohol content. One nice big 750ml (I think that's somewhere between 25 & 30 fluid ounces) longneck definitly puts you on the way:).

If you order a black 'n Tan in Sydney you'll get half 'Old' & half 'New'

Oh, the Toohey's beers also come in 750ml long neck bottles. We Aussies always by them by case, which has either 2 dozen cans or stubbies or 1 dozen 750ml longneck bottles.

Toohey's is now owned by Lion-Nathem, which ownes most of the breweries in New Zealand, nearly half the breweries in Australia, a couple of breweries in China & Australiasian distribution rights for Guinness & Boddingtons.

Nearly the other half of Australian breweries are owned by Carlton & United, who own Foster's. As you can see from this List, they own losts of brands to, including 'Tooth's KB Lager' (generically also knowen as 'new' in pubs owned by Tooths) & Tooths 'Old Kent Brown' & 'Tooths Old Newcastle Brown' (same beer, just brewed in different Brewies). Consequently if you go into one of the 30% of hotels in Sydney owned by Tooths you'l get one of their beers if you order a 'old' or a 'new', whereas if you go into one of the 30% of Hotels owned by Toohey's you'll get Toohey's 'Old' or 'New'.
The Competition & Consumer Authority, however has made all brewery owned pubs have at least one tap in each bar (most Australian pubs have multiple bars, including the public bar, a pool room, a games room full of pokies, & sometimes a beer garden & eatery a bottle shop & a drive-in bottle shop round the back, & also often a sports bar which has big Satelite TVs showing horseracing & rugby & a TAB betting counter) kegged up to a competing brand beer, but unless you specifically ask for that brand, you'll get the 'house' 'new' or 'old'.

'Old' gets its name because all the Aussie breweries made top fermented darkish ales before about 1890, When the American Foster brothers introduced bottom fermented Lager brewing to Australia. Consequently Lager became known as 'New'. The funny thing is it takes longer to brew lager than ale, so 'new' is useally older than 'old'. This naming tradition, only really persists now in New South Wales, the other states gave it up years ago.

Actually up until about 20 years, Aussies would only drink brews from their own state, & up until about 35 years ago if you a Catholic from NSW you only drank Toohey's, while if you were Anglican you only drank Tooth's or Resch's.

C'mon... people actually PAY for those things????? - I thought everyone stole them.

I have a pair of sunglasses I bought at KMart for $7.00 9 years ago. I drive a 10-year old Blazer... I never pay more than $25 for shoes.... of course, I'm taking my wife on a southern Carribbean cruise next week too. We all must have our priorities... :)

Actually my sister worked at a brewery and any beer under licence is held to 5% variance using the suppliers recipe and criteria where their own brands only had to be held to a 10% variance. So Fosters would be pretty damn close
She was the beer tester .. .
