Bloody caterpillar eating my tomato

You had to do it. I found another sphingid that will eat nightshades, though it's prefered food is members of the grape family, but I'm pretty sure they keep their horns all through their larval stage. The only sphingids I know that lose their horns are Eumorpha, but this isn't that.

Isn't that the specific worm/cat that feeds on tomatos?

If so better look for more infestations.

there's a nusance pest for tomatos that can cause havoc, can't remember the name or ID though. I never found the ones on mine, just their evidence.

The caterpillars that normally infest tomatoes are Manduca sexta and Manduca quinquemaculata. This one is something else, but there could be others hanging around.

Mr. I just want my yummy maters without some bug getting to them first.

-edit- I believe the worms on tomatos go by the common name "horn worm"?

we he is going to town on your 'maters.

The ones I get are bright green and we just call em horned worms/caterpillars. I'm sure Wally can come up with a proper name that few of us can pronounce. :disgust:
