Bloody businesses want to tamper with net infrastructure in order to make more money!!!

But instead of contriving new businesses that make do with the Internet as it is, many new business plans involve tampering with the network's electronic innards. Some of these changes would permanently alter the way people use the Web by allowing private companies to set themselves up as gatekeepers to the Internet, charging users for new features and services or for those that have been customarily free.

Saw this on /. today and I was kinda disturbed. Commercialization has changed the net a lot over the last several years, just imagine what could happen if certain businesses get near the Internet2 project. Scary.

LA Times story.

that's capitalism at its finest - that's what causes competition - competition in turn breeds innovation

the consumer benefits by constantly getting newer/better products/services for cheaper...

in a world where everything revolves around money, nothing is sacred - certainly not the internet ... in Houston, a church is contemplating leasing the Compaq Center (formerly the Summit, home of the Houston Rockets) for millions of dollars... cuz they make millions...
