Get some ice in a ziploc bag and put a hand towel over it. Tilt your head and put the towel/bag on the bridge of your nose.

It happened spontaneously? I'd consult a doctor, you might've had a (minor) stroke.
Try and speak to someone (or yourself) and see if it sounds okay. Also, look in a mirror. If one side of your face is hanging downwards, you're in trouble. Double check, to be sure!

alrighty! it finally stopped. got a good quarter or a beer can's worth. only thing i can tell is i have a headache/lightheadedness. I assume 1/4 can of beer because it started 10 minutes ago at about a drop for every 1/2 second for five minutes, gradually slowed at 2:20

I STILL DON'T KNOW WTF HAPPENED. i was just sitting here and it started. weeeiiirrdddd

friend of mine gets bloody noses every couple of months or so, lasts until he can blow out the chunk of blood vessel that is causing it... pretty disgusting! last time it happened we were out golfing, glad my golf towel is red

Don't tilt your head backwards... just let it bleed out and keep plugging your noce with wads... This coming from a son of a RN ;)

do you have allergies? you could just have dry nasal passages, and the skin cracked/bled. have you had a bloody nose before?

or else high blood pressure can cause nosebleeds.

i highly doubt you had a stroke as someone suggested.

Might be a minor one. My uncle had one, too. His nose bled, and he didn't do anything about it. Paralyzed on the left side now.

Grandma's antidote for a bloody nose is to stuff one brussel sprout up the bleeding nostril. This little mini cabbage will suck up all the blood and some sort of chemical reaction occurs which then seals the wound and it never bleeds again. After 48-72 hours, it's safe to remove the vegetable from your nose. This practice is only safe if you do not have any rabbits in your house.

I get bloody noses when the weather changes dramatically. I always end up just plugging my nose with tissue until it clots and resist the temptation to blow out the scab until a couple days after the fact.
