I usually get the same patter of results when I get my blood pressure checked. It's usually around 140/70. What does that mean to have high diastolic but low systolic. Google does not yield much in this regard.

The last time a nurse checked me she asked me if I ran to my appointment. Should I be concerned?

Diastolic is fine, your systolic is a little high. I wouldn't be worried, but exercise more and cut back a little on high sodium foods.

I've always had high diastolic results even when I ran 4 days a week. Is it just sodium? Could this be genetic?

That is a little high... nothing to really worry about. Keep and eye on it, exercise and eat right. The biggest influence on high blood pressure is genetics. If one of your parents had high blood pressure... keep a close eye on it.

Um, how about going to see a doctor and getting advice from someone licensed to practice medicine [on you] where you live? Getting advice/knowledge off the Internet chat forums may not be the best means to an end.

A lot of people don't realize that how much sodium is in most soft drinks. My diastolic was around 130 consistently. I removed all soda that had sodium. That is the only change I made. I get 120 consistently. Purely anecdotal but it was an easy way for me to cut out some sodium from my diet. I still drink soda but I use syrups with my sodastream that don't have sodium.

I'm going to correct you guys, your SYSTOLIC is borderline high. Your diastolic is fine and within normal limits. Systolic=top number Diastolic=bottom number

And even if you are in great shape you can have high blood pressure sometimes it comes down to genetics, just like high cholesterol, sometimes it's genetics.

Now if your diastolic was actually high in simple terms it means your minimum systemic pressure is high, now what causes that...well many different things, but in your case your diastolic is fine. So I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as your systolic pressure just keep an eye on it and make sure your primary care doc is aware of it as well.

If you are getting 140 and above on consecutive readings then you have hypertension. High blood pressure is defined as a systolic of over 139 or a Diastolic of over 89. Also you indicate it is 140/70 all day, that isn't normal. Blood pressure should be lower in the morning than in the evening or afternoon, having elevated morning blood pressure could indicate something like sleep apnea. My blood pressure for example ranges from 120/65 in the morning to 170/100 by 11pm.
