Blood in phlegm?

Oy. I've sick since yesterday. After I ate at my parents, I got extremely tired and I had a sore throat since I woke up Sunday morning. It just got worse and worse. Last night I couldn't keep anything down, not even water. I was praying to the porcelain gods last night. 🙁

Today, I'm feeling a little better. But I'm kind of worried about one thing. I'm able to keep food down now, and I'm not as tired as yesterday. The only thing that's been bothering me is my throat (feels like there's a huge lump in there) and my head feels like it's gonna blow. I just drank some really hot chocolate to numb my throat so it's feeling a little better. Since last night, I've been coughing up a lot of phlegm. It was a very dark brown yesterday with some minor red streaks (blood I'm guessing) and now there's a lot more blood in it. The more I cough up, the better my throat feels. I'm just worried about this blood in my phlegm.

The only explanation is that I was around my fiance's mom kitten Friday and Saturday and I have sinus issues so I was sneezing and had a stuffy nose both of those days. I'm guessing that my lungs were very affected by this and then I was hit with a cold on Sunday. As a combination, my lungs or something else started to bleed. It could also be from my stomach, who knows. I don't think I have bronchitis either since I'm not coughing, my throat just feels like there's a huge lump in it.

I may go to the doctor tommorow while I'm at work to see if any antibiotics will help this, but I'm hoping this will just pass tonight and I'll be okay tommorow. Does anyone know what the hell this is? It's kind of scaring me.
 
Seems strange, especially since you say you don't have bronchitis/a cough.

How much are we talking about here? Is your phlegm like bright red, or is it old and brownish red?
 
You've probably had food poisoning. The blood will be from tearing the little thing that connects your esophogus to your stomach. Apparently, it's pretty easy to rip during violent vomitting. Happened to me about a year ago.
 
I'd guess that it's trauma to the throat due to the sore throat and violent coughing. Probably nothing serious, BUT GO SEE THE DOC! 😕
 
if you are blowing your nose a lot, you could have damaged it or caused some dryness enough for it to bleed a little bit. the blood could be coming down through your sinuses... especially if you are seeing this in the morning after you wake up.
 
Just got back from the doctor.

He said the samething as most of us did. It was a combination of a lot of things.

First, like I said before, I was with a cat Friday and Saturday. That really got me congested and I was sneezing a lot. Then Sunday I get sick and start puking later that night. That rips my throat to sh!t and it starts to bleed. I did a Strep Screen and it came back negative, so it's like a viral infection. He told me take lots of Advil and lots of cough drops and I should be okay in a couple days.

It just scares me when I start bleeding, that is not kosher. Thanks again for the help guys. 🙂

I don't care how cute she is, that's just not my idea of a good time.
 
Sounds like you have what I had 2 weeks ago, but maybe even worse case. It's been going around the office at work. I got nausea the first few days but no puking, unless you count the hangover 2 days before that I think helped to catch it. The swollen throat feeling lasts about 10 days, with the spitting out brown bloody globs of mucous after clearing your throat for the first half of that. Keeping your head elevated (use lots of pillows) will help with the coughing and sore throat if that's what it is.
