Blood I has crackling sound in XP...

Why does Blood's sound crackle when I set the sound card to my soundcard which is a Soundblaster? I have the new patch for Blood as well as the Soundblaster. Can someone tell me what the command you type into dos to display your soundcard settings to apply in the setup menu for blood? I forget and can anyone tell me if they've had this problem also?

That's why I dual-boot W98 and W2K -- W98SE is much friendlier to DOS games.

But to answer your question, open a command prompt window (DOS box) and type "SET"
(no quotes) then look for the SET BLASTER= line.

If you formatted as FAT32 you could also try using a W98 boot disk to actually run Blood in DOS. Keep trying, if you haven't played it through already Blood 1 is a good game with some great level design and weapons. Go pitchfork! 🙂

Nothing. Also, when I go to the MS-DOS prompt it gives me a sort of "prefix" like C:\Documents and Settings\Default and I can't get rid of that. Could that be a problem? Ergh. I hate Creative, they suck, they make nice stuff but their technical support blows. My technical support lately has been anandtech! I read stuff on the sound card but they're telling me to execute exe's I don't even have.

No, that's just the current directory / folder. In "real" DOS or W98 with DOS soundblaster emulation you'd have the "BLASTER=xxx" line, but in XP I have no idea (I use Win2K).
