Well, I definately feel like a n00b after reading the instructions in getting PHP, MYSQL, or Perl configured.

I'm an ole' timer when it comes to computers (been screwin around with them since 88). Hopped on the internet bandwaggin back in '94 and had a few sites here and there written in HTML.

What I am looking for is a ease of use Blogger tool or website maker that doesn't have that cheesy "frontpage/geocities" look but doesn't take a PHD in SQL Database management to get started.

I have fooled around with Geeklog and couldn't even figure out how to create the friggin MySQL database.

Anyone know of some good, orderly, FAQs of putting something like this together On a Win2k Server running IIS?

Sigh....sometimes i feel so stupid...

I tried geeklog but I didn't like it cause I had some problems installing it. Phpnuke and postnuke is a whole lot easier to instal and only takes a few minutes to set up. the new version of phpnuke is out so you might wanna try it.

But if you wanna get into coding, there's no better way to make your site yourself. There's a whole lot of tutorials out there so you might wanna give it a shot.

edit: if you have any questions with installing phpnuke/postnuke, send me a pm

What exactly are you trying to do?

Make a personal web page with a blog?

Write your own blog program?

Make a company website with a database?

If you're just making a personal webpage with a blog, Dreamweaver is an excellent WYSIWYG editor, there's a free trial at macromedia's site and it comes with several tutorials on doing more complex stuff like javascript rollovers. I lay out the formatting/tables/CSS for my page using Dreamweaver, then tweak the code manually.

I have a web blog for my own amusement powered by Blogger(.com). It saves the blog to a file on my webspace, then I use server side includes and CSS to streamline it into my webpage.

The combination of those two should get you going on a personal webpage w/ blog with the least amount of coding.

If you're trying to write your own blog program, or do a more professional website with a database, it's probably time to buy some books...

Basically this will be a personal site. I thought about Dreamweaver....just wanted something that looked organized and maybe have some code I could delve into slowly to start customizing.

I'm more of a networking/hardware nut that just dabbles once in a while with code. I don't really have the code know-how to really delve headlong into perl script or PHP code. I don't mind getting my feet wet or learning this stuff, but it seemed like such a sharp learning curve to get something up and running that looked decent.

Mostly looking for an easy to use blogger tool (i like the style) that didn't require so much headpounding since I am doing this on the side for fun.
