Hello,

I dont fair into apple territory unless a friend or family friend pay me to fix their computer crap. Anyhow

This guy got an iPad and he wants to block porn websites. A quick Google gets me different answers.

What would be the best way to block porn on the ipad?

There are parental controls built in, but it doesn't include web browser content filtering. So you're going to have to rely on 3rd party software.

ok, so I would have to find some 3rd party parental control type program?

Can anyone recommend one?

openDNS, it can also speed up your pageloading.
The only problem with that is that some WiFi networks (particularly commercial networks) block alternative DNS servers. The iPad may silently fail as a result.

And for the OP, is this to block porn from himself or another party? Because DNS settings would be trivial to get around in the latter case if someone really wanted to bypass it.

Thanks, I am aware of that, but Opendns, I am pretty sure I have it enabled on his house and it still lets a lot of popular websites through.

But besides the point doesn't open dns need to have the IP address of what ever he is connected to, for it to work? So if he goes to his office with his ipad its not a different network so it will let porn in? If it is a 3g ipad how about that?

From himself, If I change things without him seeing he should not be able to change the settings back but it wont keep him from poking around heh.

update to old thread..

There's an easier way.. there's a paid service now called ProxyGroove that will filter porn before it gets the the ipad. And you get to keep using Safari as your web browser.

iPad has proxy support built it, so it's just a configuration setting that you can lock with your password. Works across different wifi networks too. www.proxygroove.com

Just put a sticker of Jesus on the edge of the screen. He's not going to watch porn with Jesus looking at him.
