If theres a site that i dont want my son to go to, is there and option in IE's settings to block the IP? My router doesnt have the option to block certain ip's, and i was wondering if I can do it with some easy-to-use software
If viper's response isn't enough for you. Go to www.kazaalite.tk and click on supertrick. It tells you how to edit your hosts file so that you can block the IP's of some sites. I'm currently stopping a ton from ad companies and whatnot. It's not bad.
EDIT: OH, Viper editted his message with a link so now mine looks dumb. I guess I should write that he added that link while I was typing my message up. Plus, everyone loves reasons for edits, Da da da da da da da da and so on and furthermore, ahem ahem.
If look for a file on your computer called hosts (no extension). In WinXP it is in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. Open it in notepad. Add in a line at the bottom that says:
127.0.0.1 restrictedwebsite.com
With 'restrictedwebsite' being the real URL of course. Save the file, and now the computer won't be able to connect to that site. The downside to this is that if you both use the same comp you or anyone else wouldn't be able to go to the site without going back in and editing the hosts file. The upside is that there are no programs running in the background which means no extra overhead on the CPU and nothing that can be disabled or hacked.
