Blocking eDonkey

OK, here is the deal. My brother in law discovered eDonkey, and has been on a rampage. He has sucked down about 80 gigs in two weeks. I know this is just begging for trouble.
I would like to block this from being used on my network. I have a Linksys WRT54G router. I have tried blocking the ports that eDonkey says it uses, but this has not worked, it can still connect. How can I go about doing t his?

If your brother-in-law has downloaded 80GB using eDonkey, I bet he's uploaded much more than that due to eDonkey's partial file sharing. ISP's tend to not like excessive upstream usage more so than downstream.

You could try forwarding almost all ports to your own computer. Maybe 1000 to 65535. You may have to forward all ports to your computer except for the bare minimum he needs such as everything but port 80, 21, 110, and 25 for web, ftp, incoming e-mail, and outgoing e-mail.

Ask him to stop.

If he does not, tell him that you will disconnect his comuter until he uuninstalls it.

Good idea, but if the OPs brother-in-law doesn't stop, the brother in law should get cable internet in his own name. that way the feds can come after him for piracy and not the OP.

I'm in college and I had this same problem with one of my last roomates. Morning, noon and night he would download the most awful, disgusting porno. Stuff that would make Larry Flynt blush. When I got sick of him sucking up all of my bandwith, I just MAC filtered him out of the router...and when he asked what was up, I just made up some crap about the signal and blah blah blah and "I'll have to reset the router."

That went on for like, eight months, until finally he just gave up 🙂

I guess my point is, you could try slowly browbeating him to death.
