I use Opera and i do not want to switch to Firefox. I like Opera a lot better. The only thing I did like about Firefox better were the extensions such as adblock.

And if you havent' made the transition for Internet Explorer to Firefox yet, use the SP2 pop up blocker which is better than google pop up blocker. I know because I have tested them both thru various experiments.

Thanks.

Obviously you've found a solution already but I just wanted to add one thing.

Opera has an ini file somewhere that you can put adblock patterns into (or at least it did when I tried it out in the 7.x days). I just copied my firefox adblock patterns in and it worked fine, although I never had expressions more complicated than * matching. Incidentally, the difficulty of doing this (edit text file, restart browser as compared to right-click and block in firefox) is one of the big things that kept me from sticking with Opera for longer than a week.

Anyways, not sure where to find details anymore but I originally stumbled on them by googling "opera adblock".

Thanks. That works perfect.

Any extension for Opera that does not take up system resources like Proxomitron that i can just use as a plug in for opera (almost identical to FF's adblock) also, any extension for Opera that does the same thing as Cookie Culler? I am giving it a try.

I vote for Proxomitron--thanks to its support for regular expressions, there are a huge number of 3rd party add-ons that make it work very well.

Web Cleaner is a bit more updated than proxomitron and is opensource, it is another proxy based internet filter like proxomitron. But i need something built into opera because i run xp 64bit and i dont think either of these work with it.

I've used the HOSTS file from mvps.org for about a year now and am very satisfied with it. I also run Firefox with Adblock for pages I visit often and don't want their ads showing up. I also have some sort of script in my user.js that I got from Mozilla.org for blocking ads, but it may've messed up some pages sorta so I think at the moment I commented it out. With these, I rarely see ads and haven't even bothered to install a spyware scanner because it comes up empty (other than few misc. not really malware things) every time!

This is what I use for blocking ads in Opera. Works real well, I import the filterset.g rules for adblock into this, and it blocks ads just as good as AdBlock.

Oh, and it's also free
