Hey, to those of us at work right now, is this one of the only forums that you have access to???(with "forum" in the url, i mean). Obviously, alot of companies block forums because it lets me waste time at work, but I was really suprised when the AT forums werent blocked...

interesting?

They use the "Websense" filter where I work. It blocks some sites, if they fall under certain categories. Not really sure how the criteria is met. Needless to say if they blocked the AT forums, I'd be twiddling my thumbs 99% more.

Nothing is blocked on the Staff side of the network at work. Public side is a whole different story.

<---works at a public library.

parent's basement doesn't count as "work" 😛

i'm powering the house with my road bike hooked up to the generator.

erm, i'm guessing the energy goes into a battery somewhere, else you'd be fairly screwed when you want to do anything besides nef on atot

Yeah, I just think the GE internet filter is retarded. I can access just about any gamesite, except the forums on them. Obviously pr0n is blocked (damnaht), but still, its kinda random how they block stuff here.

On a funnier note, i just started out here so I'm doing drafting work at a unix workstation, and use a windows emulator to surf the net/check email. But, since its a unix system, anytime I go to a website with sound, it BLASTS the sound so my whole floor could hear. Needless to say, I as quite embarassed when I went to (some site with backround noise) on my first day...

Same here. They block all game sites but I use a proxy on my own server to get to them. 😀

I get to actually look at pr0n at work. No kidding. One of my function is to go through the FTPs and find anybody that's hosting pr0n. Fun times.

streaming media, e-mail, and other random websites are blocked here... forums are good2go though. i'm on a military base.

When I used to work at lucent, we had a guy running squid on a linux or a unix box, which one I don't know and he was running it like a proxy. It was awesome. The only problem is that Lucent scans all ports.

We use Websense here (and I am the admin for it) and I'm pretty sure anandtech and it's forums are under the Information Technology category, even if "Message boards and clubs" are blocked

hell, if it was blocked I would add it to the allowed list anyway...

🙂 I actually told our IT person that I am on the forums a lot during breaks / lunch just to make sure it was alright. "Helping people with their computer problems" I believe is how I put it.

Where I work... all forums / chat / etc are blocked on the standard proxy setting.

We've discovered another set of proxy servers that allow some access to forums...including Anandtech's.

The standard proxies block anything game / adult / chat / forum / fun related. If you hit a site that violates one of the rules an email is automatically sent to your boss and to corporate security.

It's a PITA....espically on slow days.
