Blockbuster online dvd rental

I still use Blockbuster, but only until my free month they tried to bribe me with runs out. I was using the 3-out-at-a-time with unlimited in-store exchanges. It went from $17 to $24 - okay, I can deal. $24 to $34? No way. All in the span of like 6-7 months? Screw that.

With Netflix's unlimited web viewing, it's more convenient anyway. Laptop + 47" LCD TV = way more convenient than running to BB store

I'll be switching when my free month is up

I'm also unhappy with the Blockbuster rate hikes. But I live very close to their distro center, so I get all my movies in 1 day. And I rent a lot of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, so digital distro is no good for me.

I'm still a member, have noticed a hair slower turn around, but I rent a lot of BR movies, and still have the unlimited in store returns and 2 free movie/game rentals.

The rate hikes do suck balls though.

I've been with BBO for maybe a year now. I've used it only moderately, haven't really tried to maximize efficiency. They haven't downgraded me yet, I still pay $18/month for unlimited mail, unlimited store trade-ins and I get 2 free coupons per month, good for either a movie or game.

Even with slower turnaround times, the fact that you get to trade-in at the store means you get twice as many movies versus Netflix. Therefore, Netflix would have to be twice as fast as BB to compete, which I don't think they are. Add the 2 free movie/game rentals per month and the winner is clear for me.

That's false, I'm on the 3 out plan and did 18 in the last 30 days, so that's under $1 per movie. Half of the movies I received were new releases

Yeah, they usually send new ones out the day after you turn them in at the store.

We switched to BB when NF started throttling us. Which, BB seems to be doing now with the online service.

Throttling? is not a term we use at Netflix, but is used by people who incorrectly believe Netflix intentionally tries to reduce the number of DVDs a Netflix member who is a frequent renter receives, by delaying his or her DVD shipments or returns.

Netflix does not do this.

This confusion may have arisen from two scenarios in which infrequent renters may get preference over frequent renters.

The first scenario is if a customer requests a DVD, and their local distribution center does not have enough copies to satisfy demand, but there are other copies of the title available to the customer from another distribution center. In this scenario, the DVD is generally shipped to the customer from the other distribution center the following day. We do this in an effort to deliver the DVDs listed highest in the customer?s Queue. Other factors being equal, these ?cross shipments? happen more often to frequent Netflix renters. Cross shipments only happen if the local distribution center is short of the desired title; cross shipments are never artificially generated to slow a frequent renter.

The second scenario is when there is more demand for a title than we have copies of that title. On those occasions, we ship the available copies to the subscribers who, other factors being equal, have been renting less frequently. The subscribers who do not get their first choice will generally get their next available choice sent that same day from their local distribution center, and there is no delay incurred.

Returns are promptly processed as they are received, and there are no preferences in how they are processed.

that is lies. they do throttle. i had netlfix and i started out great. i would get my 3 movies on thursday watch them over the weekend and send them back on monday . ge tthe new ones on thursday etc.

then it started getting slower. i send them on monday and wouldnt get the new ones until the next monday..then wensday.

so i went from getting 3 a week to maybe 3 every 2 weeks and it never got better.

so i cancelled and went o BB..though they do the same but at least they would let you take the movies in to the store and get a free rental. but they cancelled that so back to netflix.

when netlfix starts to throttle me again i will just call up and complain. shrug seems all you can do.

Almost every Blu-Ray I wanted from BB online was always long wait to very long wait, so I switched to Netflix after some members here assured me that wasn't an issue there. Has BB corrected the problem and stocked enough copies to prevent that from happening anymore?

Me, too. I've had Netflix for about 6 weeks now and I like them better. Fast turn around times and less hassles, plus Netflix offers online streaming
