Too little too late. Blockbuster has been playing catch-up with Netflix (and now Gamefly) for a while now. I don't see them staying in business much longer.

I saw the "Blockbuster Game Rentals by Mail" thread, and thought this would also be of interest to many here: (from today's email)

RENT VIDEO GAMES FROM REDBOX
FOR JUST $2 PER NIGHT!
That's right! Coming this month, you'll be able to rent the hottest video games from select local redbox locations near you for just $2 per night. Choose from a great selection of games for PS3, XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii. Get Ready, Game Night is Coming!

I don't own any game consoles, so it doesn't do any thing for me, but I know I'm in the minority, so I figured I'd pass it on...

So I can rent a game from Blockbuster online and keep it all month for $5 or get it from Redbox for $2 for 1 day.

Redbox is obviously the much better deal, I can't wait for Blockbuster to die!

Obvious sarcasm aside, I don't expect Blockbuster to be in business much longer. Their B&M operation is already belly-up...

So, if BlockBuster is liquidated by their creditors while the game is out, do you get to keep it?

Redbox works fine for movies, but I don't see it as a very good option for games. I suppose there are some people who rent games and only play them for one night. But I think a lot of people who are renting games are going to want to keep them for at least a few days, if not longer.

It's really amazing how fast misinformation spreads. Blockbuster files bankruptcy and suddenly everyone thinks the company is out of business or that their retail stores are all closing.
Will they eventually go out of business and close all their stores? Maybe, but it won't happen anytime soon. They are filing the same kind of bankruptcy that businesses file all the time to restructure their debt and reorganize the company. They will continue to operate and probably for a long time.

They are closing some of their retail locations, but certainly not all of them.
