Arizona Guard militia plans more aggressive border action

Eyewitness News 4 has learned an armed militia along the border near Douglas may take matters into its own hands this July.

Casey Nethercott, the leader of the group said Friday that he doesn't yet want to go into detail on his plans.

He supports the Minutemen, but his backup plan is a much more aggressive approach.

Nethercott pointed to two black SUV's, saying, "These are armored vehicles. They got quarter-inch steel in them. They'll stop small arms fire and some rifles."

The headquarters of the militia, called the Arizona Guard, sits along the U.S./Mexico border near Douglas, Arizona, in the Southeastern corner of the state.

Pointing again to the vehicles, Nethercott continued, "You'll get killed without them, here's been so many shootouts out here."

So many shootouts, he said, that the back wall is riddled with bullet holes of all sizes from drug smugglers who open fire on the compound; prompting the group's border project, tentatively planned for July 4th.

"When this Minuteman thing is over, if it doesn't work, we're going to come out here and close the border with machine guns," Nethercott said.

Fighting fire with fire, but Cochise County authorities say the Arizona Guard must act by the letter of the law.

"We will make sure we find out about that, and we will regulate him, just like we regulate the Minuteman Project," explained Paul Newman, a County Supervisor for Cochise County.

The Minutemen, who sat and watched the border still Friday, say they don't support a violent solution.

"I think anytime you go to that length to take the law into your own hands, you're asking for trouble," said Chris Simcox, an organizer for the Minuteman Project.

Eyewitness News 4 has learned of several other groups, including one in California and another in Texas, planning to launch their own anti-illegal-immigrant projects soon.

I used to live in AZ and I support thougher enforcement of the borders. Now let me make a point, I TOTALLY SUPPORT IMMIGRATION. I only support legal immigration. Anyone who is caught ought to spend 3-4 years in jail.

cant we jsut build something like the "rio grande wall", you know sorta like how they did with berlin.

I wonder how long they'll last before the ATF shuts them down?

They might actually be able to keep within the law on this as long as they do not use their weapons. If they own a stretch of property along the border, it is probably legal to stand anywhere on it (and maybe near it is they "perceive a threat") and act as guards.

IF I stand in the US and shoot across the border and kill someone in Mexico, where am I guilty of murder, Mexico or the US?

well, the problem is, are illegal immigrands crossing the rio grande on the mexican side protected by american law? they arent in america and definitely are legal(so they forfeit the rights given to citizens and legal aliens in the constitution.right?)

I live in tucson and have been going south (near nogales) to a ranch where my horses are and lately its been kinda scary down there. Theres a LOT of illegals but now with the minutemen there are more trucks for both border patrol and them and other ranchers and what not trying to keep people off their property. Frankly I'm all for any american citizen that wants to come down and protect our borders. The damn illegals will liter on our property, let our horses loose, take their water, and think their entitled to it all. The ones that come across the border legally are just fine with me, they come here to work usually and do so at an amazing rate and do a great job, but these border jumpers are getting out of hand. And the scary thing is lately the groups aren't just mexican, they are including iraquis, iranians, or some other middle easterner who may or may not be coming here for the wrong reasons. If i ever catch one of those around my horse their ass is toast...

If you think about the millions of dollars spent on one war plane, you think they could just build a damn wall.

I don't really care. They are working the jobs that americans won't work. Even if they say they would work them, I doubt it.

by international law you are guilty of murder in mexico...and if they shoot YOU over here (which the federales have been setting up to do btw with outposts on the border made to go against the minutemen) they are guilty in the US but since they are part of the mexican army its kinda considered an act of war/protection....been having to make sure lately 😛

How about the ones that come to the United States illegally that drive? Do you want to get into an accident with someone with no insurance, no driver's license, and no money? To say illegal immigration is okay because they'll work the jobs others won't work is looking at the overall problem very narrow mindedly.
