I was re-installing everything on my brother's computer and making sure it was up-to-date (OS, apps, drivers, patches), when I got to Turbo Tax Deluxe that his wife uses for the family's taxes (2005).
I went to Intuit's website to fetch the latest update and its 97.5MB (Megabytes). Good Grief! This wasn't the download version of the entire program, just the latest freaking update to the program.
They are still on dial-up, which only connects @ about 40K. Fortunately, one of their neighbors has an unsecured wireless network + broadband, but many times the signal isn't good enough to connect. The wireless Gods must have been smiling last night, because I got the whole file (yes, the neighbor knows my brother uses his bandwidth from time to time...at least that is what my brother says).
I have only one word to say - TaxACT!
I've used TaxAct for a few years now. The entire installer + program is usually less than 12MB and updates are only a couple megabytes.
I didn't intend for this to be a product endorsement but DAYUM!
