Bloatware on laptops

Dell Laptop:

Core Duo 1.83Ghz
1 gig DDR2
80 GB HDD
etc

It's a decent machine, but I noticed that it takes upwards of 1 - 2 minutes to boot. When it's up and running its using about 383 mb and running 50-65 proocesses.

I remeber hearing about the "Dell De-crapifier" and was wondering if anyone has experience with it.

Thanks.

It would seem like it would be easier to just remove programs from add/remove than mess with a script that may not match your situation. 🙂

I used it with a scratch-n-dent Dell that I picked up on a deal. The machine came pre-loaded with MCE. Ick! The "de-crapifier" worked exactly as advertised.

Eventually however, I ended just blowing the OS away and installing one of the Win XP Pro licenses from my Microsoft Action Pack. 😉 A much better solution all around. 🙂

I had a similar situation with a dell notebook, if you run the recovery program to reinstall windows you can then just cancel all of the dell software installs. You will probably have to download some of the correct drivers from dell's website though.

If you're savvy enough to do a clean OS install and load the correct drivers that would be my recommendation.

What's wrong with MCE?

Maybe there's something else wrong there? I blew away my partition a week or so ago and restored my Inspiron6000 (2.26pent-m, 1gb ddr2, 60gb 5400rpm) and it took no more then 30-40 seconds from POST to desktop.
