Blizzard still working on D2, new CONTENT patch is coming.

I know this was posted a while ago on the b.net forums, but for anyone who hasn't seen, Blizzard is apparently at work on a new Diablo 2 content patch (read: not just bug fixes, actual new stuff). Since it doesn't look like D3 is going to be out for at least another year, they are doing something to keep all the D2 addicts satisfied for a little longer.

From the way it's worded, it sounds to be like they are willing to make significant changes to the game to make people happy (since it will pretty much be at the end of it's life when D3 is released).

We?re in the process of working on Diablo II content patch 1.13, and we want to try to include the Diablo community?s most important changes in our production schedule. To achieve this we?re asking for your input on what you?d like to see in this patch. However, we?re making it a bit stricter than a full-blown wish list. If you were to get an advance look at the patch notes for Diablo II 1.13, what is the one patch note you would want to see? Our goal is to get an overall sense of the single most important request from every member of the community. We want as many posts as we can get for the largest cross section, so if you have friends who used to play Diablo II or just don?t frequent the forums as much as you do, let them know this is here so we can get their ?#1 patch note? too. Please be mindful that we?re not going to be able to make every change mentioned, but hopefully with your feedback we can prioritize and do our best to cover as much as possible.

I haven't played D2 in a while but I'm sure this patch will get me back in to it (for the 10th time), at least until D3.

The most important thing they can do is get rid of tppk and bugs/hacks that allow people to pk. That will make it so there are public games in hardcore again. As it is now, if you want to play hardcore you need friends to play with and there isn't much of a community outside jsp.

I want Blizzard to include one of the main Diablo III's feature in Diablo II, since it should have been there from the start, which I've suggested to them in the their thread, namely Player-Based Loot Drops. If they do that, for me, it will mean I'll take all of my spare time after work and during the week-ends for at least one or two months coming back to Diablo II for real, which is something I always wanted to see happening but I couldn't, since the current content is simply too old and now repetitive, when you've seen and done everything that could be seen and done, you're kind of bored of it.

That's near the top of my list too, but I seriously doubt it will happen. Since everything is sprite based they would need to get art teams involved to redo some things. I would really like to see it happen but wouldn't get my hopes up.

They just need to press the enhance button a few times.

There are some amazing mods out there, i wish they could do something in the same ballpark as them. I really enjoyed Hell Unleashed but it wasn't solo friendly and it was extremely hard. But i loved playing the new levels and getting new items. More items and new areas would be my list.

Eastern Sun is a really great single player mod (it's multiplayer capable apparently but I haven't bothered figuring out how to do it). Something like that with b.net capability would be awesome.

Diablo has gone to hell... (no pun intended)

The best thing they can do is remove all hacking and botting. For me even the PK scripts are not so much a problem when compared to hordes of autobots doing meph/baal/andy/pindle, etc runs 24/7 running on people's computers. That and the rune dupes... It completely destroyed the game and made me quit eventually. Well that and one bastard that impersonated my friend and made me give him my infinity, enigma, and a few other really good items. The sonofabitch really did his homework. He listened to our conversations for a while looking for key phrases and tone. He noticed that my friend often plays on issues of trust - he said things like "let me use your item for a couple of days.. what? You don't TRUST me? I thought you were my FRIEND!". Off course it gets a lot deeper than that.. I am not telling the whole story here. He must have known my friend in real life, because he really played on my guilt and used it against me. One day he logged in and told me he is playing from a cousin's computer... Usually I wouldnt believe anyone talking to me fro ma different account, but he was extremely convincing, using inside jokes and everyday phrases me and my friend often used... The scammer made me believe it was infact my friend talking to me. He then promptly "borrowed" my items that I grinded for years to get...

Anyway, this story has a happy ending, because in the end, I still had enough junk left on the account to sell it off for a nice sum of money which I then used to get a very nice duplex printer that is still going strong 6 years later!!! I quit Diablo and never looked back. In the end I am really glad I quit because that game was not a hobby. It was an obsession, and an unhealthy one at that. I will check out D3 when it comes out, but I will never consider playing D2 unless they get rid of all the botters and dupers which will never happen.

PS: I hope that in D3 they will add an option to kick people out of the game for being immature of acting like jerks. I was constantly being told to "stfu" despite the fact that I barely ever said anything in the chat, and called a "gay ass nOOb", a "nub", and a host of other names a couple hundred times a day, every day while playing Diablo to the point where it was getting completely ridiculous. There are just too many kids playing this game.

They have tried removing the hacks since diablo 1 and it has never worked so why bother now?

The could always do some way to import your characters from diablo 2 to diablo 3 but just as a way to save your name for a time.

Otherwise then that they need to stop wasting resources on that game since it will be phased out as diablo 1 was fast once d3 comes out.

Or better yet get world of starcraft going. ;)

There is already a mod available that will give you up to 1920x1200 resolution, and it looks great, but runs sorta choppy despite saying its running 60 fps. It also doesn't change the max casting distance, which is slightly further than 800x600 allows at any time but not as large as 1920x1200 shows. It's not really a playable mod due to the choppiness but it works. D2 High Res (I didn't make any s/s)

I agree with Ibex333, hacking is the biggest problem with Diablo 2, and it shows more in hardcore than softcore. Tppk? Not a problem in sc, gamebreaker for hardcore. Thus there are no public games in hell difficulty on hardcore, and not a lot of nightmare. It's turned into a game where you mainly play with who you know, and trade over jsp, where the only real community aspect resides. Getting rid of those hacks, esp the pk hacks, would make the game back into the community and would make hardcore viable again.

1. Non-expiring chars/accounts on multiplayer (even for a small fee).

2. Re-assign skill points

agreed
also agree with resolution and a shared stash

those would be my 4 must fix/add to make the game perfect

botting and hackers/dupers will be there no matter what, so /shrug

I'd like to see them retool magic and rare item generation a bit to make it possible to find ones that are actually good. As it stands, rare items worth using seem less common than high runes. You end up having the only "good" gear combinations be uniques and runeword items.

Yeah, and when the game first came out all the best gear (esp weapons) were rares. They really went downhill and are definitely pretty useless now.

Barter economy sucked, jsp is what makes d2 still playable.

Play classic, rares are the best gear and actual people play the game, not baalbots and spambots.

I played my share of classic, it was definitely pretty fun for a while. I got sick of doing cow runs with corpse explosion eventually and ended up back in expansion. There seemed to be a more adult crowd there though, and the ladder players were generally pretty cool and helpful.

D2 Exp (read jsp) is completely dominated by kids now

makes me wonder what D3 is going to be like since I would not be surprised if jsp turns out to be the dominant market for D3 transactions

I started again about a month ago in anticipation of the patch. Hit level 90 with my Zealot this weekend. I was playing last night when I died teleporting to reach baal. Logged out, logged back in and all the items i was wearing were gone...
Vamp helm...
Stormshield...
Enigma...
Scarabshell boots...
Cats eye amulet...
Vamp gloves...
Raven Frost...
That wisp ring...
and lightsaber/some axe thing that i dont remember the name of.

I was proud that I didnt yell or break anything (used to do that when I lagged out of W3 games) but that was a fair amount of work, and I just wanted to vent...

i've often wondered how the game is still largely dominated by 13 - 16 year olds. I mean, the game has been out for 10 years now... you'd think that those of us who still play would at least be in their early 20's, but that's really not the case. It is an extreme rarity to find an adult in a game with you.

I suspect Blizzard is going to capitalize on the success of jsp (for the guy that asked... d2jsp.org is a diablo item trading site, hugely popular, that really started out as a botting program) by implementing its own trading system, either in game or on a blizzard website. I don't think blizz is the type to give easy money away, so I suspect they'll do something to compete with, and likely overtake, jsp.
