Thanx for the post, but these are not good prices at all, aside from the WoW package and the Bioware bundle...

I bought the WCIII battle chest 3 or 4 years ago for about the same price from eb games. And it wasn't even on sale. Diablo, when I bought it new god knows how many years ago, was $44.99 I think... And to charge $30 for it so many years later... Is insane, no matter how good it was/still is. That's the thing about Blizzard. Unlike other companies, they don't like to drop prices on their games. When they actually do, these price drops usually come much later than it happens with with other companies and it's never more than $10-15 or so.

This is greed at it's finest IMO. Sure, Blizz makes some damn good games, but they are definitely not the best at what they do anymore. At least not for the past 6 years or so. For every game they ever made, there is now a game that is just as good or better.

wow take that stick out of your ass. They charge that much because people simply will pay it. It's called being smart. The worst they can do is churn out crap sequels (ie battlefield) And charge up the ass for them.

I agree the diablo and WC package is not a good deal at all but how are they "not the best at what they do anymore"? World of Warcraft has been the number 1 MMO for a while now and broken the record books in sales and subscribers. Personal preferences aside, it's the best and biggest.

Oh and wait till Starcraft 2 comes out. I'm sure that will break records as well for the RTS market.

NaOH has a good point about EA tactics like battlefield. Its absurd how many times they add a few small things or change some skins and maps and charge another $30-40. Then their patch support is usually is rushed and crappy on the existing games.

You are correct, these bundles are available on Amazon for the same price with free shipping (if you get it above the $50 mark), so I guess they are merely average prices. I recalled some people posting about where to get Diablo in the PC gaming forum and thought that it was expensive / hard to get licenses for them these days. I was mistaken apparently.

These aren't bad prices by any means, Blizzard just knows people still purchase them and has never really dropped the price. This beats best-buy and circuit city prices on the average day however for the games. It is frustrating that Blizzard likes to stick it to us on price for games that are nearly 10 years old, or just surpassed 10 years old. However, they sell things for the price they can get people to buy it for, there must be a friggen market for it.

What game was better diablo? What game was better than Warcraft 3? Or Starcraft?

If you look at threads of the best games ever those three along with doom, quake, Halflife 1/2 are on many peoples list as number 1.

What game lately would make that list? I dont know of any besides for me it could be BF2. But starcraft is prob the game i would put as number 1, and the game i spent the most hours on but age group would also matter as I was 16 when it came out it really getting into computers at that time.

A bit of trivia. Diablo II was released SEVEN years ago this weekend. And it's till a great game. I've tried every game I know of that claims to replace it, none come close.

That's like saying Monopoly is a crummy board game because it was invented roughly eighty years ago.

Another bit of trivia-Blizz just reset the Diablo2 ladder on bnet a week or two ago. And yes, it's still pretty active.

Mandatory on-topic message: $30 for the Diablo battlechest is no deal, that's been it's regular retail price for a couple of years.

The really funny thing is that I have 4 licenses of D2. I used to run 4 copies at once on 2-3 comps... 1 strong char with 3 leechers... lol <- I R Dork.

My ass does not have any sticks in it. But thanx anyway.. I guess.
I just don't like greedy companies and people, no matter how good their excuse is, or however childish that last statement might have sounded.

As for the "demand" thing, you might be right - I'm not a numbers guy, and I'm not aware of the statistics, but Blizz is still too greedy IMO. Most games in question are very old, and I cant think of any other game company that would keep the price so damn high on their games after 7 friggin years! No matter how good those games were. And please, don't even try and tell me that Blizzard's games are the best games ever made. I agree that DiabloII and Starcraft were definitely two OF the best games ever made, but not THE best.

I believe the exact statement was "just as good if not better". And in the case of Diablo, yes.. I admit it. No matter how many clones there was, nothing really ever came close. So I should have omitted that one.

In fact, I take back the "better" part. There definitely is nothing better. However, "just as good", is easy. As a few examples, Total Annihilation, Warhammer: Dark Omen, Dawn of War, Command and Conquer 3 and Company of Heroes are very good games and are just as good, in their own way when compared to Starcraft or Warcraft.

Just like SC or WC, these games brought many new ideas and features never done before, and what's more important, the companies behind them actually gave us many great titles during these last several years unlike Blizz who was sitting on their ass all this time, milking the WoW franchise. Hey, why bother with anything new when there's so many people playing WoW?

True, they are finally coming up with SCII, and DiabloIII is rumored, but from the tons of negative posts I see on various forums, many are not very enthused about SCII's silly cartoonish engine, and the lack of new features. But I'll stop right here. I don't want to start a debate about why SCII looks like it's gonna suck or wont suck. My opinion is not your opinion. My main idea was that greedy Blizz is charging too much money for very old games, and $30 is not a good deal, when the price was the same 3 years ago. Therefore, I must apologize for provoking people to take this discussion into the wrong direction. If anyone wants to argue about the actual games in question, I'd be happy to do so via PMs. Otherwise, let us stick to the main topic from this point on.

I logged Hundreds of Hours in Diablo 2. well worth any price.

$30 is a bargain to me, since the game will guarantee a shit ton of gameplay. just my opinion.

Diablo 3 has been announced, screenshots on gamespy. I'd linky, but I'm at work, on lunch, of course.

Spellcheck's goin' crazy on this post..

I'd love to get a couple of these games cheaper too, but Blizzard will price them where they'll sell, and evidently people are still paying $30 for the set. That doesn't take away from the fact that these prices are not hot. 🙂

As for the Diablo comments, note that it is Diablo II, and includes Diablo.

As for best games - you forgot Civilization. Probably the original time sucker in strategy games. The newer incarnations are as well, as are some of the knock-offs (Stardock, there's looking at you😉.

I can think of one: LucasArts. Valve aren't quite as bad, but they get pretty good mileage out of their Half-Life games.

Nope, eight years. The expansion was released seven years ago, though. Time flies.

I'm pretty sure that I saw the Diablo Battle Chest for ~$33 before the sale. It's probably just a bug.

Quick question for anyone else who has the Diablo battle chest.
Did yours come with a Diablo 1 cd key? D2 and D2:LOD have their respective keys but D1 doesn't have jack, nor does the included documentation. Can't find any information on Blizzard's site on whether or not D1 still needs a CDkey.

D1 never had a cdkey - i can't imagine newer version do.

Oh? Thanks. Its been ages since D1 and I'm so accustomed to CD Keys that I figured there'd be one.

I was even discussing it with my brother and neither of us could recall. Ah, the joys of getting old?
