Not sure if this has already been posted somewhere, I can't tell how new the video is, but it's great.

As far as the game, I'm afraid it's going to suffer some just from being stuck with the SC2 engine. I don't know why blizzard didn't implement some sort of re-connection feature with SC2, without it DOTA style games are going to be frustrating. But hey, it'll be free, and I'll certainly give it a try.

I read a little about this yesterday, sounds like they're trying some new things which is nice since most of these games out now are really close copies of the original DOTA. I can't read the link here at work, is it just going to be a mod put out by blizzard for SC2? If so I'll try it but I don't think it will be successful, I still remember the days when people would instantly leave DOTA games because someone picked the hero they wanted or something retarded like that. I'm not sure how people will take the removal of last hits on creeps either, I honestly wouldn't mind it but I'm sure a lot of people would.

Yes, an official blizzard mod for SC2.

And yeah, leavers being a problem came to mind. It will have a ladder, maybe they will penalize leaving with heavy ladder point loss, something like that could help the situation. Lack of hero selection is sort of a design goal, they only have 12 heroes done and while they want to add a few more before release they are very focused on quality over quantity, so you can't expect something like LoL with 40 champions. I bet it'll release with 20 or fewer available heroes.

I found it interesting that they decided to nix the boots. I remember when a friend was teaching me DotA that the first thing I had to do was "buy the boots!" :p

Stupid question, if I own SC2, do I need to pay to play Blizzard DotA or it is just another custom game?

It looked promising at first, but after reading that they got rid of all of dota's items and there's only like 12 things to buy, I completely changed my mind. Best part of dota was knowing what to buy/how to counter heroes and items/etc...

It will be free. Also last I read they were trying to make it available even if you didn't have SC2.

there is something called Starcraft 2 Starter Edition that is free

it's limited to playing 1 race (Terran I think), can not play ladder, and might be limited to playing only specific custom games

DotA 2 is expected to be available with SC2 Starter Edition

honestly, it seems to me that Blizzard is trying to CoDify SC2 DotA with their take on the MOBA genre
