Good.

I don't play WC3 but the cheating was running rampant in Diablo 2 & the Expansion.

Good to see them finally do something about the cheaters :disgust:

From the article:
Many gamers felt Blizzard's ban was far too lenient. Suspended players will still be able to play private games on Battle.net, Blizzard's online gaming platform. And they'll still be able to use the single-player version of the game.
Uh, are these "gamers" proposing we ban the players from single player, too? That's about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. They paid for the game (maybe), they can do whatever the hell they want with it.

Actually it's

"Warcraft III Map Hack Users Banned - 9/06/2002
In keeping with our aggressive stance against hacks and cheats, we have closed 20,504 accounts that were found to be using Warcraft III map hacks, and removed their ladder records. In addition, the CD keys of those offenders have been banned from ladder play for two weeks. We will continue to monitor the Warcraft III realms for malicious players. Please note: repeat offenders can suffer permanent removal from Battle.net if they continue to use hacks.

We regret having to employ these extreme measures; however, certain unscrupulous players have impaired the game play of the Warcraft III community as a whole, and severe action continues to be warranted and required.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you would like to report additional instances of hacking or cheating, please contact us at hacks@blizzard.com. Thank you again for your continued support.

Ripped off from www.battle.net front page and www.battle.net/war3 :) They're really getting their act together.

This is great.

But I don't agree w/ the ppl who say that it is too lenient...c'mon, ban single player? haha. I say as long as they can't play ladder/tourny's anymore, that's fair enough.

But glad that blizzard is doing this.

They should give them more than 2 weeks. If my own abilities are any example of the typical player, you don't need to cheat to win ;)

I'm sure Blizzard won't ban people who cheat in single player......after all, they post the single player cheats on their website. :)

It was a 2 week ban because many people who cheated felt that Blizzard would never take them seriously enough to ban them for life. Also there are people on the bnet tech support channel who never cheat, but got caught because one of their allies in an arranged game cheated or they gave a key to a friend who cheated. Those people are warned and need to be warned.

Which brings this qusetion. Lets say you're in a Random team game (those people werent banned, only arranged) and you random teammate cheats. What will you do? Lose the game and lose a crap load of exp (thus being heroic and taking a loss) or "cheat" to win?

Other than that, I would say multiple infringements, and you need a permament ban.

I saw this in the PA forums the other day. Good for them. The guys at PA were saying to check out the bnet forums, because apparently the cheaters are whining trying to justify it.

Not only were they whining, they're also advocating going into stores, opening copies of WC3 and writing down the key so they can get back online before the ban period is over. Some kid posted about how he was just going to "return the game to bestbuy and if they complained have his mom yell at them so they take it back" :)

Someone grind that kid up and use him for fertilizer, so he has some chance to benefit the Human race.
