CARS!

Seriously folks, I need to know because, well, I have nothing better to do.

Is 'blipping' the engine, where you give it a lot of gas quickly to rev-match, better or worse for the fuel-efficiency than applying steady pressure to match the revs?

This is assuming that this is during normal driving...not driving in a hurry.

I have my own thoughts on the subject, but realize the problematic nature of baseless assumptions, and would like to see knowledgable people discuss it.

during "normal" driving you don't usually revmatch, but steady pressure is ever-so-slightly better for fuel economy.

It's for such a short amount of time it shouldn't matter, I was thinking about this myself today

With the clutch disengaged, the engine spins freely enough that it's not enough of a difference between the two for it to matter.

Blipping, however, is most definitely worse from an emissions standpoint as there is a _severe_ HC spike in exhaust when you close the throttle after blipping. Some modern cars even have the engine management disallow the engine's swift return to idle for this reason.

I blip the throttle because it makes my 4banger with a fartcan sound like a race car y0

I blip my 4 banger because it allows me to go from 50, hard brake, engine brake in third, make a 110+degree turn @ 20mph, down to 2nd, up ~30 degree hill, third at crest, up to 50, back down to third 20, 30-60...down to 10..etc...my commute is fun as shat:D

It's irrelevant, really. When you blip, there is a brief instant that the engine isn't at peak efficiency, but it really depends on whether you are flooring it, or just tapping the gas a bit.
