I noticed when I was driving right next to an A8 when a red light came on the right passenger side mirror. It turned off when the car moved up ahead but came back on when I approached it again. I thought that was a good feature if it works. Do a lot of newer cars offer this?

I've never noticed that. It sounds like a pain in the ass..I would constantly think that my blinker is on. Are people really getting too lazy to look over their shoulder?

The UK had 30,000 incidents where people following their GPS directions hit stuff or went off road. So I'd say people are too lazy to look out their windshields much less over their shoulders.

No, they are just too busy doing their makeup, shaving (yes I have seen this before), stuffing their face, or talking/texting on their cellphone to do anything else.

It's getting pretty common. You can usually turn it off, thankfully.

It probably works but I wouldn't count on it, use your own senses.

I drove an FX-50 and it had lane departure warnings if the blinker wasn't on, it worked pretty good. Now that's something that is actually useful.

That actually is pretty cool. Seems much more useful than blind spot warnings.

I would still check my own blind spots...

seriously.. any time I forget to check I get really anxious and worried that there could have been someone there... and for that matter I always check even if I KNOW no one is there

Yup it's very useful, even if for some reason you were to fall asleep and start drifting out of the lane it's possible the warning would wake you up. I believe it also has settings where you can turn on slight braking or streering wheel feedback to alert you further.

Thinking about this now, the only good time to use these indicator lights would be in an emergency where it would take too much time to swerve your head, thus you can look at your indicators and pray that there is nothing there while going around a sudden obsticle.

Also driving in bad weather, fogged up windshields, hard visibility situations where you aren't 100 % sure if nothing is there, this can be used as confirmation after checking the blind spot manually.

It would def work for cars driving without lights at night.
