Blew room circuit breaker, PC now 100% dead

Here's what happened: yesterday I turned off the PC, it was working fine.
10 hours later, I turn on the multi-plug adapter and then click the button on the PC: circuit breaker goes off after the power light goes on for a fraction of second.
I turn the lever back on and try again, this time I just connect it without clicking the power button, and the thing goes to off again.
So I connect the PC directly to the wall, this time the breaker isn't set off. I try again with the adapter, it isn't set off either. But the PC is completely dead, clicking the power button does nothing.

Is it the PSU?
Could the motherboard be damaged?

I don't have a tester or other PSUs around. Everything is out of warranty.

If you are lucky, it's just the PSU. Sounds like whatever failed did so bad enough to create a dead short and maybe even damage the power bar. Chances are it is the PSU as if a dead short happened on the DC side it would have kicked the PC off but not blow the breaker as far as I know.

I would try a new PSU and hope for the best. You can also pull that one out and try to power it on manually to confirm if it's dead. You have to short the green pin to any of the black ones. If nothing happens, it's the PSU.

the power strip works fine with the monitor and the hifi.

I'll try that thing with the PSU, thanks.
My main worry is: what if the mobo is fried too and I get a new PSU? Will the new PSU break?

manual start doesn't do anything, the PSU fan stays still.
So it's dead. It had 5 years or something and was a Corsair 650W, kinda sucks.

now the question is:
what if the mobo is fried too and I get a new PSU? Will the new PSU break?

A quality AVR UPS would be good insurance against future power problems.

Check your particular model, but your Corsair may have a 5-7 year warranty.

yeah those things cost a lot though and I've never had a problem like that in my life, ever.

It has a 5 years warranty indeed, but the list I found is for sales after 2011.
The problem is that I'd have to send it to the Netherlands at high cost and today is Sunday, and I'm not here until next week-end and by then I want a PSU. So I might just buy a new one.

Thanks for the replies, I'll go check the date now.
I hope it's not the mobo too.

EDIT: I still have a few months of warranty, but I'll go ahead and buy a PSU anyway because I need it by next week-end, then I'll search for the box and see if it's worth the risk.
