Hey guys,

My seinheissers finally broke and I need replacements. I have no interest in studio size headphones anymore, so I'd like to replace them with wrap around headphones.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of any websites where I might be able to find reviews by price?

If it's pertinent I listen to alot of R&B and Rap music...

Well I'm not very familiar with wrap around headphones, but I haven't heard of any that sound awesome. I think Sony makes some, but there are better sounding headphones than Sony. In your price range, and since you listen to R&B/rap, I'd recommend something from Koss. Definitely look into the Porta Pros, Sporta Pros, KSC-35, KSC-55, and KSC-75. These have excellent sound for the money and have a fun, bassy sound that's great for R&B, rock, etc. You can check some of them out here. Most of the ones that I mentioned should be available at most retail stores like Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

how about a brand spanking new pair of sennheiser HD-497?

For R&B/rap? No...but for most everything else, those would be OK. 🙂

i have a pair of KSC35... surely the bass is quite good, but it really does not compare to the 497's... more noise isolation (even though it's open-air), treble is better and the bass is not as exaggerated.

the ksc35 is a nice pair of ear phones, but it doesn't work well at all in noisy environments.

headphone.com
ENJOY! And they are totally unbiased and even say not to buy certain headphones they sell admitting they are bad. Unbiased audiophiles. This site is great!

Oh, and it's either:
buds
sealed (senns are like this)
semi-sealed
open

More importantly, what is your budget?
Grado SR-60s are commonly sued by geeks. I have a pair. About $70
If you want buds, the Shure E2Cs are pretty money. Abotu $100

Yeah, when I was interested in studio headphones I heard that the URD20s were awesome for their price.

Well, I wasn't even sure if he'd be using them in a noisy environment or not but if he is, the KSC35s are designed for portable use so they should sound fine and will look a lot less goofy than the HD 497s. Besides, the KSC-35s and KSC-75s are clip-ons so of course they won't have the isolation of a circumaural or even a supraaural headphone, but that's a GOOD thing when you're walking across a street or riding your bike near cars. If he's not going to be using them portably then isolation shouldn't be an issue anyway. 🙂

I think the OP should look here. Just my $0.02 🙂
