Bleh legalized ticket scalpers suck! LP tix $200+ dollars

How or why is this allowed..
In most states individuals cannot scalp tickets.. but they allow a company to do the same thing...
why on earth should we have to pay 90 dollars for a grass seat because the scalper companies buy up all the tickets...
300+ dollars for reserved seats in the center REAR... 200 dollars for a semi obstructed view ticket...

I really wanted to see LP and Korn.. but I cant justify this kind of money for 1 ticket... for a 4 hour concert..

The dont allow these "services" in some states wonder why Texas does =/

AFAIK, ticket companies have to follow the same rules as individuals selling tickets, unless that state has a special law/rule regarding resale by companies.

Simply put: don't wait till the last minute to buy your tickets. You really can't blame anyone but yourself. In TX individuals can sell the tickets for however much they want, just like companies can. Resellers and individuals however, cannot scalp at the venue itself.

You don't have to go. Enough people don't go, scalper is out of business. Supply and demand. I can't see why some states outlaw scalping. You are playing a game.

I tried to get tickets right away.. it was bascially sold out very quickly.. but now looking at these services that is what they are chargeing for all the seats... they are the ones buying up all the tickets... not the fans..w hich in my eyes sucks.. not only becasue of the price but becasue most of these concerts that say sold out.. the scalpers have the majority fo the tix... so many sold out shows arnt really full... beacasue those tickets never sold ...
that to me kinda sucks becasue bands see a marginally full arena stead of a full truly sold out one...

Go to the show and wait about 30 minutes or so after it's started and then see what the scalpers have to say. Sometimes you can get tickets for cheap if they're really desperate to unload them.

ya fasuto i was thinking about doign that anyway.. I only really want to see LP and maybe Korn anyway i care less about snoop dog or the undying or whatever thier name is...

In reality, the show is sold out. Doesn't matter who has bought them.

Do you blame the guy that buys a 250gig HD from Hot Deals and then resells it for a profit on FS/FT? Same thing as ticket scalping. If I walked in and saw that 250gig drive for $20, I'd buy every one they had and I bet you would too.

I know you're just blowing off steam. I'm not trying to make an argument or anything. Just trying to give you another perspective.

Anybody with a basic understanding of economics would have a hard time believing scalping is illegal anywhere.

It's a simple supply/demand relationship, if there's a market for scalpers the tickets are priced too cheap.

Bleh never had that legal scalping problem in Cali when i lived there.. dont think I ever payed more than face value for any ticket at Shoreline or Cow palace or the Shark tank...
must have better laws out there.. scalping is for dirtbags.. in my oppinion its detremental to the music industry if you cant get your fans to the shows...
no wonder Metallica hates scalpers so much.. they like their arenas packed =P

I bet Metallica likes it better than not being able to sell out their shows at all... You should try to get tickets earlier, before being forced to turn to scalpers.

I can understand scalping, on small scale. But I know what the OP is talking about, sometimes these places send DOZENS of "employee's" to all the various outlet, buy the max # of tickets/person, and go to the next spot of their list. They buy out these events just to drive up the prices, even if the event would have sold out, they make it happen faster, and force your to buy from them...

Supply and demand. You certainly don't have to buy from them. You don't have to go to the show. If no one bought from scalpers, they would go out of business.

EXACTLY!

Moo dont listen so good do he =P
I was tryign to buy tickets the FIRST day they were released...
they were already scalped out...
Im too old to go camp in front of a ticket master to get tickets... i use the net and by the time I was able to get on all you can get is grass and obstructed view tickets....

i went to the LP concert in GWF

was in the pit

and let me tell you, save you f'n money and go find a better concert

buy yourself the lp live dvd and go to a real concert =P

This isnt capitolism.... its a borderline crime if you ask me... scalping tickets is lame as hell...
I would never do it because the whole point of concerts is to get the fans to the band...
these assfaces get in between that and rip the crap outa people for thier own selfish means... if they sell hal thier tickets at those inflated prices they pay for the tickets they have to throw away...
Scalpers are not music lovers they are greedy SOBs that care less if that 13 year old kid can get to a concert... Im 34 now... when I was 12-15 i could afford to go see bands play and prolly went to over 100 concerts in those years... Ozzy, Metallica, Iron maiden... Scorps etc..
I could ususally afford 1 ticket to go on 1 weeks allowance.... now forget that you have to be a professional to afford a ticket since the scalpers have peeps all over the US buying the tickets for them so they go before the real fans can buy them..
this is not supply and demand.. the supply is the promoter and the middleman is ticketmaster or bass...
scalpers dont know what concert is going to be huge.. they buy them all up... therefore smaller concerts end up even smaller as there are no tickets at bass or ticketmaster...
this is pure greed based crime plain and simple...
when these scalpers dont sell thier last minute slashed tickets guess where they go.. in the trash.. multiply 50-100 tickets per the average 60+ ticket services in Houston alone....
not to mention the national ones that buy up all locations tickets and sell on the net...
thats alot of tickets in the trash.. your argument.. sure the band gets payed... but wtf.. concerts are marketing.. they are there to sell albums and make future customers... they are beign robbed by not filling those seats with peeps that actually dig the band or could be exposed to the band and become a fan therefore makign the band future money.... when those fans buy the next CD....
guess I just see things differntly... but then again alot of states have laws against scalpers and businesses that provide the same service... so Im not alone...

These scalpers are staying in business; they can't possibly be throwing away as many tickets as you would have us believe. The fact is that the scalpers are setting the prices that the box office should be setting to begin with.

Many states have anti-scalping laws due to kowtowing to whiny brats with overdeveloped senses of entitlement and underdeveloped understandings of economics. That doesn't mean those law are good or "right."

Besides, you don't think the ticket brokers can guess at which concerts will be well-attended?

There's nothing wrong with capitalism but scalping is illegal because those companies get people to buy up all those tickets and then sell them back to the public at whatever price they want. Yes, it's a matter of supply vs demand, but the markets should play by the rules. No one should get a free lunch making money off someone else like those ticket scalpers.
