There should be no problem with win2k to my knowledge because I have a 120 gb hd and win2k.

how is the noise level of the hd? for those of you with quiet cases (adda, panaflo, etc.) - is the noise from the hd louder than the fans? i dont expect it to be as quiet as seagate's barracuda but is it close?

Nice and quiet, I think. Or at least more quiet than the 60 gig WD 7200 I had in the system before. I could hear that thing seeking and it drove me nuts...

The sound isn't a loud as the 40GB WD I had in before. The also run pretty cool.

I'm having some problems with my drives, but don't want to cludder this thread.
Go here to help me.

My drive has been "In Transit to Local Carrier" for 4 DAYS now! Not only is Dell customer disservice suck, but their order status is suck too!

G "there's a large sucking noise going on in Texas where the Dell HQ is..."

Check your status on the phone, mine has said "in transit" for the past few days too, but when I called in I got a tracking number and found out mine has already traveled half way across the US already. :)

Use more than one partition and you should be fine. It is the problem of your old motherboard, not the drive.

Never recieved an email with an order number but the drive was shipped.

I received mine yesterday. It was not packaged correctly. Just the drive in OEM anti-static bag dropped in 9x9x11" box.. Really a lot of room to bounce around in during UPS shipping. Dents on inside of box.... Called Dell Customer Service and another one is on the way... I hope. Did not want to have a problem later. Expected better from a computer manufacture...

At least they did not cancel like they did with the Refurbished Altec Lansing ADA880 speakers saying they were out while all along they had them but would not honor their offer. Again, I expected more from Dell........

Capn - try actually talking to a csr to get the right tracking number
As for my hd problem...i can't get it to format under win2k disk management...
and when i fdisk the sucker...it only show 48XXX MB...but after i formatted it, it show all 120GB...i used a win98 boot disk...then when i check under fdisk...drive still show as 48XXX MB and with FAT 16...ahhhhhhhhhh...anyway to format the drive with FAT-32???
Takes FOREVER to format...can i reformat it using quick format into FAT 32?
OH yeah...i have the lastest BIO from ASUS - MB - P4B266-C - BIO ver. 1002 beta 005

In 1999-2001 I resembled that remark. Worked 5 months, vacationed the rest. God Bless this forum.

Mine was packaged the same way as chrisfrogs. So you are saying that they just threw the harddrive in the box with nothing else? Not even those air packets (like Dell normally does with cdrw and dvd drives in the retail box)?

I just received my drives. They were packaged GREAT, they each were in a box that had form fitted black foam around them, then those 2 boxes were put in a larger box. They are warrantied for 1 year by dell, but that should be fine. So far they work great. It was funny, the drive spent like 4 days in transit to UPS according to dell, and I had to call them to get a UPS tracking number, but I finally got the drives yesterday. I got them for the $140 price, so 2 drives for $280 with the 8 meg cache, is a good price.

Ditto here. The one thing that struck me the most about the drives were the EXCELLENT packaging they came in. The protection was top notch!

Could someone please direct me to a link where it says that these drives are covered by Dell for one year? I have heard this left and right, but never seen any concrete information on the warrantee.

TIA,

Sal
