Blank Taskbar icons in WinME

The boxes on my taskbar in WinME have started going blank. Clicking on them restores the program name, but they still look a little odd, a little lighter than I rememember them being. Any idea what may have caused this? The only thing I've done system-wise lately is to uninstall MSN messenger and updated my video card driver.
