I just put together my new system. It consists of a winnie 3500, msi neo2 platinum, 1gb ocz pc-4000, zalman 7000b, barricuda 7200.8 sata 80gb, bfg 6800gt. Problem is i put it together and it all comes to life fine, but the monitor is still in standby mode. Doesnt turn no. Stays off as if the computer is off. I know for sure the graphics card, the monitor, and the harddrive works.

Any suggestions?

Anybody heard of this kind of problem??

Thanks much in advance

Hi ayman.

Does it beep at post? Got another monitor to test?

My rig was doing the same thing - it would "come to life" ie. all components would get power, but it would only actually post about 1/5 times and often not at all. Very annoying... for a while I thought wiggling the VGA cable where it connects to my video card was solving the problem but that wasn't it. I tore it down and rebuilt it several times too. The only thing that completely fixed it was replacing the mobo. Yeah it sucked, but it never does it anymore and the only variable that completely fixed the problem was a new mobo. g/l

It does suck huge horseballs. I didn't want to do it either and I went through HELL to come down to the conclusion that it MUST be the mobo. Anything else I was ok with replacing because I have backups for every other component.

We finally had a power outage, and the sh!tty motherboard got pwned pretty good. Gave me an excuse to buy a new one, and I am RMA'ing the old mobo. When I get the refurb, I will most likely sell it to recoup some of the cost.

Think of it this way... even if you did find some way to make your mobo behave, it could just start crapping out in the near future again anyway. Better to replace / RMA now and be done with it. It seems this problem is becoming more common these days with both the Asus A7N8X series and the MSI NeoPlat boards.

Do you know which BIOS version you have? Are you using 2 sticks of RAM in dual channel mode?

I may be mistaken, but I believe that motherboard with the older BIOS (1.2 and earlier?) has trouble with the A64 winchester and 2 sticks of RAM in dual channel. If that's your setup, you can try removing one stick of RAM to see if it will post. If that's the problem, you can update the BIOS, and then put back in the other stick of RAM.

Thanks guys. Also another suggestion from Amoroque was that it may not be posting because of how the front panel connectors are plugged in. I may have somehow plugged them in backwards or something and i'm gonna check that as soon as i get home. If that doesnt solve the problem I might have to RMA it which is really upsetting because i waited long enough to get it and now this happens :(

Well i'm just gonna reply to this thread i started to tell you guys what solved my problem... After messing around left and right desperately i found out that resetting the bios by removing the battery for 5 minutes allowed it to boot. The weird thing is, if I literally unplugged anything after the reset, it wouldnt work. So i had the VGA card, 1 stick of ram, and only the cpu and hs/fan hooked up and reset the bios with those plugged in. It booted with a healthy screen and i was able to get it going and setup everything... my question is... could it be the reason why i had to reset it with everything plugged in is because it has sort of a "set" setting with whats plugged in and thats why it POSTed? Because if i unplugged the VGA card then put it back in, it wouldnt POST. It was kinda weird, but i'm glad i got it going. Next step for me is to update BIOS. I've done all the windows updates and have the drivers installed as well.
