blank screen on first power up

I just got all the components and drives hooked up, plugged in monitor, mouse and keyboard. When I power up there are no beeps and all fans are going but nothing on the monitor. I'm sure it could be a number of things but any tips as to why the blank screen?

Epox 8kha+
Amd 1700+
Geforce 2 mx
256 megs pc2100

thanks very much.

Does the LED say FF? Oh and what brand is the ram?

I think that first, you might want to remove the mobo from the case and put it on the antistatic bag. Try running with just the CPU and HSF, ram, and a video card.

FF......bleh! Uncool! :disgust: That's what my first DOA 8KHA+ said....I can only suggest two things now: see above post for static bag method, and make sure the CPU is good (perhaps by testing in a friend's SockA mobo).

Well, I placed MOBO on antistatic bag, hooked up only power supply, power switch, led switch, reset switch, hdd switch and video card and memory. Still blank screen. When I switch monitor on/off it says no signal. Still have FF on bios display on mobo no beeps.. Any other suggestions???? Thanks

If the mobo says FF right after you power it on, it is probably busted (or the CPU may be busted.....but that's not likely at all). If the mobo cycles through many codes, resting on FF once it is done cycling, the mobo is still good.

Since it jumps right in and says "FF", I think that the only other worthwhile thing is to get the CPU tested in a friend's board (if at all possible). But it's more than likely the board:

I got my first 8KHA+, hooked everything up, pushed the button, and all I got was spinning fans and an FF on the LED (no video signal). After trying 3 vid cards, (2 AGP and one PCI); testing my ram in a friend's 8KHA+; using a spare, working processor; using a friend's working PSU; and trying another PSU from my other comp, I was unable to remove the FF signal. No matter what I tried, it seemed that the mobo was at fault.

I did a quick RMA, and I received a (it looks remanufactured because of the older bios marking) 8KHA+ with an N+ bios. I set up the mobo, pushed the button, and everything has been working well from then till now 🙂

Good luck, FredLocks, on your RMA for getting a replacement 8KHA+. It really is a wonderful board! 🙂 Don't forget that for every DOA or failure story, there's a thousand success stories! You'll be enjoying your new 8KHA+ and Athlon XP in no time 😀

When you were running your test, did you remove every daugher card except the bare essentials? I had a Netgear RT314 that would kill my system on boot. As soon as I pulled it, BLAMO! Booted up like a champ. Try it if you have not already.

Try a different power supply if you can. My Biostar M7MIA + Athlon XP 1700 did the same thing with an Antec 300w PS, but works fine with a Future Power 250W PS.

Just to let you know I had a Epox 8KTA3 with a 1gig athlon. Well I fried the CPU because it wasnt getting contact and after that my mobo would go straight to FF as soon as I power on. You might want to look into it more as the CPU could be dead. I never did test the mobo out with a good CPU as I sold them as is and had told what happend to the CPU.

Before that it would go through different codes then stay on FF. I could have killed the CPU and mobo but the CPU was definately not getting any contact with the heatsink so you figure it out
