Blank screen after gaming for an hour?

So I have been suffering with this problem with my computer for a while. I play WoW at 1440 x 900 with most of the settings maxed out on a radeon x800xt P.E. I have a gig of ram and an AMD 64 3400+. While I am playing the screen on my lcd will flicker once or twice and then just go to a blank screen and has the usual "digital" words as if it switched to the digital output that it is on anyways and then says "no signal". I assume this is a problem with my GPU shutting itself off? I am not overclocking or anything on my GPU so I figured that was not the problem. Does anyone know what it could be? I don't experience any frame rate slow downs while gaming it just shuts completely off and I have to turn off the entire computer and turn it back on. Thank you.

First thing that comes to mind is a bad cable. Otherwise it's likely something to do with your monitor I would guess. If your video card just stopped working I really doubt the PC would be able to stay running and not crash.

Do you have a 19" widescreen viewsonic LCD? Mine doesn't shut off, but exibits other similar behavior. I notice mine gets hot as hell and I worry about the damn thing overheating. Does your monitor get hot to the touch?

Wow so it may be the screen. I have a 19 inch widescreen viewsonic screen as well. Looks like I will be purchasing a new screen to test and see if that is the problem! I'll check the deals section for a new one
