The subject says it all...I have a freshly formated PC waiting for a new OS. I own both Windows 2000 Pro w/SP3 and Windows XP Professional. Which OS would you load on the PC and why?

If I had a legit copy, I think I'd go with XP and turn off all the eye candy. I cannot think of anything that 2K does better than XP. Most of the drivers are the same between the two. I doubt any piece of software will react differently. My Win2K install boots in 3 minutes or so (dual-Athlon, IDE-only drives) versus 30 seconds or less on XP.

AMDHardcoreFan, if you're a gamer, I would go w/ XP Pro :)

It's funny, I was in the same decision dilema the other night, and I chose Win 2k Professional.

On my previous hard drive (running on the same system), I had XP Pro, and ir ran great. I just wanted to try Win2k to see what all the fuss was about.

So far, I am loving Win2k. It seems to run everything a little faster and is very stable. I'd say you can't go wrong either way. And if you format your drives as often as I do (about once every 3 months), then does it really matter?

I run w2k and love it. No extra bells and whistles, no candy colors (spare me the 'you can change it'). WinXP is just as good, but I prefer 2k to it. Just seems more leaner and meaner.

I would go with XP Pro because of the added compatability for jsut about anything. I've also found it to be more configurable then 2000 as well, but still not like I would like it but anyways, I still think it is the better choice. The one I realy dislike about it the the registration with Microsoft but with the first registration and teh steps to make it less sensitive to hardware changes it becomes fine.

I'd recommend XP, just because it has a few little features built in that become hard to live without. And it boots faster.
I've sort of got to like the eye-candy after a little while. 2K suddenly seems quite plain...

Yes and SP3 just came out for it too.

Win2k for me.

Go for Win2K SP3 unless you have some old game or program that won't run under it. It's leaner, just as fast if not faster than XP and doesn't look like a kiddie OS when you boot it up.
